Cramping after late loss

Hi there, i lost my baby girl at 15 weeks last Friday due to Chorioamnionitis and developed early sepsis. I delivered her naturally with the tablets in hospital. Thankfully home from hospital since Tuesday but I’ve passed further placenta twice and I am having awful cramping in between rectum and vagina, with pain worsening after passing placenta earlier. The pain feels like it’s in my cervix. A scan on Monday showed everything was clear but this was only 3 days after delivery so I hear it’s not accurate.

It’s not an emergency as I’m not filling up a pad that quickly but just very painful. Anyone who had a loss continue to pass placenta for a while after and still had cramping a week later? This was my first pregnancy after 12 months TTC so I’m worried I have now caused scarring etc. Should I push for a d&c or when should I start to worry?

thanks!

I passed placenta two days after delivering my 15 week baby. I was scanned in hospital the next day which showed that there was potentially still something there although they didn't know whether it was just a large amount of blood or something that would cause me an issue.

I had similar issues with my first loss and was completely fobbed off which meant I bled and continued to test positive for nearly two months. I think because of this, and the size of what had showed up on the scan, the doctor recommended surgery to be on the safe side.

I would definitely contact the hospital again and stress how painful it is and ask for another scan/ second opinion. Do you have a bereavement midwife? Mine seemed very ready to advocate for me but it wasn't needed in the end.

Thank you so much for the reply! I actually got a scan today (my bereavement midwife organised) that showed placenta under 2cm so they won’t do surgery. Have taken the induction tablets (same as what I took last Friday for delivery) but nothing has happened for a few hours now.

Id love to TTC again in the next few months, hopefully this doesn’t cause any issues. Will try get another scan next week if nothing passes and see if they will do something surgical.

I'm glad your midwife is on the case.
That was the situation with my first miscarriage too. They measured it as 2cm and said to leave it but this time I think they said 5-6cm.
Please do keep on at them if nothing passes. Have they advised about when to do a pregnancy test? I ended up going backwards and forwards for blood tests to monitor HCG in the end.
