Hi,

I went for a private scan today at what I thought was 7w5d. There was no heartbeat. The foetus measured 4.7mm and gestational sac was 38mm which seem quite contrasting as they’ve put on my report the foetus is around 6w and sac around 9. I’m waiting for an appointment on Wednesday to have an NHS scan and for them to tell me how I proceed with the MMC. I’m very scared for what is to come. Does anyone have any advice? The more I know the better I cope but I’m just so scared!

I don't have any advice, I just wanted to say how sorry I am that you are going through this 😞 x

My MMC was similar. 8.5 weeks, they measured the baby about 7 weeks. I was booked in for a surgical procedure to remove what was leftover from the pregnancy. Thinking of you x

Sorry for your loss. I had a Mmc at 13 weeks and was offered surgery or tablets. Tablets you will pass yourself. Or you can wait to pass naturally. Surgery was best for me as I was put to sleep and had minimal bleeding after. Every hospital is diff though. Apparently some don’t have space for surgery and only offer tablets. Hope all goes ok for you x

Thank you. I think I hope they offer surgery at my hospital even though the thought of anaesthetic (irrationally) scares me. It just feels it’ll be done then.

Im so sorry you’re going through this. I’ve had two D&C’s and both were straightforward and pain free. You’re absolutely right, I did feel like it was done and I didn’t have it hanging over me. The sadness gets easier in time. I hope you have good people around you to lean on, it does help. Wishing you all the best.

I'm so sorry for what you're going through. I've had 4 MMCs and had surgical management for all of them, I wanted the physical side over with, like a clean line of being pregnant and not being pregnant. That way I could process the emotions and move forward xx

Thank you. I go for an appointment today and i hope they offer surgical management. I’m nervous about having general anaesthetic - do I need to be!?

I don't think so, no. The team were so caring and took the time to answer my questions. I felt completely looked after both before and when I came round. I was glad not to have been aware of what was going on. A friend of mine had local anaesthetic and it sounded quite distressing. Sending you a big hug, and hope you get a quick resolution.

Unfortunately I have to be re-scanned in 7 days as baby measures small (5-6 weeks) and then they book surgery from there (likely the week after). I have no idea how I’ll cope with the wait and I’m so scared of it happening naturally in the meantime.

Please don't worry about general anaesthetic - I've had 6 (4 for surgical management of miscarriage). You fall asleep super quickly and before you know it you'll be waking up in recovery where they keep a really close eye on you and look after you.
