Hysteroscopy retained products

I lost my baby at 17 weeks gestation 7.5 weeks ago.

It’s been a long saga with retained products - but to cut a long story short I may need a evacuation of retained products (suction under general anaesthetic) next week.

A nurse mentioned the possibility of using a camera (hysteroscopy) but when doctors have discussed it with me they have suggested they would use ultrasound.

I’ve been researching and have decided that if I need this procedure I would like it guided by hysteroscopy rather than ultrasound.

Does anyone have any experience of how receptive doctors are likely to be to this? Will they do it if I ask? Will they refuse? Why don’t they do it this way routinely? Does it require more expertise etc?

Thanks

I’m so sorry for your loss.

When I had mine for retained tissue I was told it was up to the doctor performing the surgery which method they preferred to use. I was told it would probably be via ultrasound but when I met the doctor before the procedure she said she wanted to do it via hysteroscopy. I’m not sure of her reasons but I think she said it was more accurate. It turned out to be a good thing for me as she also found scarring which she tried to remove.
But I don’t know whether you’d be able to request a specific one, sorry.

Thanks for your reply, this is helpful. Can I ask - had you had previous procedures before, or was the scarring caused by the retained products?

Edited

I’d had 2 previous procedures before this one, so I assume the scarring was caused by one of those.
