Hi there I have found out today that I have had a missed miscarriage, should be 8 weeks and had a scan last week which showed a slow heartbeat and size was pointing at 5 weeks 2 days. So I wasn’t surprised when today they said baby’s heartbeat wasn’t there. Question is do I wait to miscarry naturally ? How long does it take? I have had a previous miscarriage where I was given tablets and bled horrrifically and I am scared of D&C .. can anyone give me some suggestions what to do

I’m sorry you are going through this. I’ve had a few MMC, and have never tried to let myself miscarry naturally as I didn’t want the uncertainty. I’ve had medical twice, and the first time was awful, but the second time was fine & very manageable. I’ve also had surgery and like you was really scared. But I needn’t have been, it was very straight forward. I woke up not knowing anything that happened & had hardly any bleeding after.
I hope you manage to make the decision which feels right for you x

I’ve had 3 spontaneous miscarriages and 1 surgical as they wanted to send the tissue off. The surgical was by far the easiest although the natural ones have been very different each time and one was actually weirdly fine which was surprising because that was the one which got the furthest. They all had warnings before they happened though, I spotted for several days before actually miscarrying. I don’t want to scare you but 2 were pretty painful and I had contractions which pushed the tissue out. I would highly recommend getting painkillers and big pads in advance if this is the route you go down.

I had a good experience with the surgery, minimal bleeding after for the most part although I did have cramping and large blood clots 3 days after until I passed a bit more tissue which I’m assuming was the reason for the cramps and clots after so long. I’m 2 weeks post and all seems to be absolutely fine now, no bleeding at all.

I am so sorry you’re having to make this decision, it’s honestly devastating. I’ve found these forums to be great help though as there are unfortunately many people who have been through similar and have some great advice so please lean on us if you need to!

@Solisa I am another one who has sadly had this experience so sorry you have found yourself with this situation. I also had the surgery and found it the best for me personally as it was over quickly and i just had a bit of cramping for a couple of days and that was all. It was much harder to recover mentally than physically to be honest although I'm not sure i will ever fully recover mentally if I'm honest.
Hope you find the right choice for you, sending hugs.

@Solisa I am so sorry for ur loss… I agree with the other ladies…surgery management is the easiest. I had it with total sedation and I woke up in no pain and very light bleeding. I had a medical management for another miscarriage and I wouldn’t recommend as it didn’t worked in my case and after all the pain I had to have surgery anyway. I also had a natural one which was totally different..no pain at all but I wonder if it was because it was a blighted ovum.
Choose what is right for u and take ur time… unfortunately none of this is easy…I am so sorry u are going through this. Sending u a hug x
