Hi,

I’m looking to get some positive feedback from anyone who’s gone through something similar to me.

I’m 39 and have a 10 and 13 year old. I met my partner 3 years ago and we wanted a baby together. Although my age was a worry, I’m fit and healthy and wanted another child with my current partner.

I fell pregnant quickly but unfortunately I started bleeding at almost 11 weeks. It’s now week 9 and I’ve not stopped bleeding.

I went for a scan today and I was told it was likely I’d need surgery.

I’m a mixture of emotions. I’m keen to have surgery so I can start to feel myself again, I’m also keen to try and fall pregnant again but feel very sad about the whole thing.

I guess I’m just reaching out to see if anyone has had surgery and then had a successful pregnancy at 39?

x

Sorry you're going through this. I've had 2 D&Cs (or ERPCs, whatever they're called now), both were surprisingly straightforward and my nerves the first time about the anaesthetic etc were unnecessary. Reading the miscarriage board, it seems most ladies have a positive experience of the surgical option. I really hope it's the same for you. I also think it's very rare for the op to adversely affect your chance of a future pregnancy - in fact, I've heard that it can help women who are prone to miscarriage in the same way as an endometrial scratch can. In my case I had a successful pregnancy at the age of 38 after my first ERPC. Wishing you lots of luck.
