IVF used for miscarriages

Hi, I am wondering if anybody has gone down the IVF route because of having miscarriages and your success or unsuccessful stories.
We had one uncomplicated successful pregnancy who is now a 3 year old but then 3 miscarriages since in the last two years.
I am under St Mary’s recurrent miscarriage and I have had tests and scans they all came back as normal.
I had progesterone and aspirin in this last miscarriage.
Is there anything anybody found that helped or any more tests to push for?
Now weighing up if we try again naturally one more time or if we head straight down the IVF route - I know they can select the genetics and chromosomes to help reduce miscarriages but with the expense of the IVF I am still wary if we would result in miscarriages again.

Recent research suggests that male sperm quality is a significant factor in miscarriage.

@LadyChillTThank you, I was thinking of getting this test done next as it’s the only thing we haven’t done yet so this gives me a push to go and get this done thank you

no problem friend, women have traditionally been blamed for everything to do with birth but surprise surprise, men also play a part.

I’m sorry you’re struggling OP. I would definitely say it’s worth getting a sperm sample done just to check that there isn’t any obvious issue there which could be causing the miscarriages. How old are you both, is age a factor?

After that though, if you’ve had all recurrent miscarriage tests and nothing has come back to flag as a reason then personally I don’t know if I would throw the money at IVF. I have a friend who also sadly had recurrent miscarriages and if they can’t find a cause of the miscarriages then (other than the genetic element of IVF & quality of embryos) your chances are not massively better via IVF than just continuing a natural cycle. I do know my friend had clear tests via NHS recurrent miscarriage and then paid privately to be investigated where they did a wider range of tests and 2 separate issues were picked up on there though. Based on the private results she then had IVF with the same private facility and is now 13 weeks pregnant x

@Mrsttcno1I am about to turn 34 and my husband about to turn 35. Thank you for that information, we also saw a private fertility clinic and they offered us more tests so like you said maybe it’s better to pay for all those tests including sperm first then going from there before IVF

I would go for a doctor who specialises in multiple miscarriages - I've heard good things about Dr Shehata - or an IVF clinic that specialises in miscarriages, does immune testing and treatment and embryo testing.

That’s what I would do personally, better throw money at trying to figure out what the problem is first because once you have that information you might be able to resolve it and fall pregnant naturally without needing to spend £10k+ on IVF x

@GingerKombuchaThank you so much I have just researched DR shehata and sounds amazing so definetly going to reach out to him thank you so much for your help

Does DH smoke cigarettes or weed?
Does he drink much alcohol?
is his diet healthy?

implantation and development of the placenta is driven by the the man’s genes, so his health is directly responsible for implantation and placenta health. Just something to consider before spending £££’s on ivf or whilst waiting to start a cycle.

£40,000+ and 4 ivf mc’s. It’s heartbreaking.
Wishing you lots of luck op.

I would also do more investigations for recurrent miscarriages as there could be issue and you could do ivf and untreated issues could cause you to miscarry again. Fertilysis do a recurrent pregnancy loss panel which is good. Dr shehata is also another good shout. NHS testing is limited and often finds no cause but they do nor do important tests such as nk cells etc.

@GroupDiscountOnTheBusToHellIm so sorry to hear what you are going through.
we don’t smoke, don’t drink alcohol and everything we drink is decaf and we are regimented with our health and food so we know we are our healthiest selves which can be frustrating. Thank you so much for you advice!

No problem feel free to dm me. I had two straight forward pregnancies and then 4 back to back missed miscarriages in row within 1 year. Currently 13 weeks pregnant after doing appropriate tests and getting answers and correct treatment, all other misses were around 6-8 weeks
