Positive surgical miscarriage experience

Just thought I’d share a positive experience of surgery as I couldn’t decide between medical and surgical and there are so many horror stories about surgery! I knew in my gut I couldn’t face medical - 10 weeks with twins - but the stories really put me off
It was a lot of waiting around, but I was in hospital at 7:30 and discharged around 12 after going in at around 9:45.
Ive had minimal bleeding and no cramping, aside from the grogginess yesterday I feel fine. I’m sure I’ll feel it when the hormones leave, my boobs still aren’t back to normal, but I was so anxious about it and feel so happy I did this option as I feel like I can move on instead of facing maybe weeks of bleeding, cramps etc
It’s my third miscarriage but first was very early chemical 4+4 and second potential embryonic which passed naturally around 7 weeks.
Obviously everyone’s different experience is different but sharing in case anyone needs this today.

Hi @katharine1403 firstly, so sorry for your loss and what you’ve been through. But I wanted to say how this post is such a good idea. I had a very similar experience to you - MMC discovered at 9 weeks, went for confirmation scan the following week but went prepared having done my reading on the different options and new I wanted surgical management for the same reason as you - even the week between scans I was on pins waiting for something to potentially happen naturally and couldn’t stand the thought of how long it might take my body to let go and start to pass on its own, plus the thought of all the pain/blood that comes with it. I also didn’t want to be put to sleep, so opted for local anaesthetic. They actually fit me in the same day as my confirmation scan. Obviously it wasn’t the best experience but considering the circumstances it was the best option for me. The staff were amazing and so considerate and kind and patient in talking me through all my options etc. I was worried about pain/contractions that I’d heard of but for me it wasn’t overly painful, just uncomfortable. I know everyone’s experience will vary depending on pain threshold, size/date of pregnancy etc, but it was over in about 15mins start to finish and I was able to leave the hospital about an hour after. I experienced very little bleeding and actually only bled for 24 hours, but again I know this can differ. However, it was a relief knowing that I wouldn’t be passing lots of blood or tissue etc and that the ‘worst’ was done with at the hospital so I could physically start to move on and process it.
