Dr Shehata / Mounjaro

after 4 years of infertility treatment, and 3 chemicals, I ectopic and 2 MMC I have been referred to Dr Shehata for recurrent miscarriage testing. However, after gaining a lot of weight during the process and medications my IVF clinic have recommended Mounjaro for a few months before my next transfer to get my BMI back down. So, my question is, has anyone else been on weight loss medication at the time of their appointment with Dr Shehata and has it been an issue?

@LittlemissbeatI have an appointment on the 13th of May '25 and I’m currently on Wegovy. I’ll let you know. BUT for me it was so worth it to get on the weight loss meds. I went from 112kg to 80kg (I’m 176cm).
In still taking it right now, decided I will stop when the pregnancy test says positive. Unfortunately I keep having chemical ones. Right now going through my 3 in 6 months. I hope they will be able to help. All I can tell you is that they insist that you don’t try to convince before the 1st appointment, as they need to run tests to make sure it sticks.
When are you seeing Dr Shehata

Thank you for your reply. That’s an amazing loss, can I ask how long it took. I agree I don’t want to waste any time getting on with shifting the weight. Please do let me know how you get on, is yours an NHS referral? Would be so good to know what tests they do. I’m there the week after you 🤞

I started the drugs in March '24 by December I was 82kg. The first month it’s slow as the doses are small for your body to get used to it without too much side effects. It’s pretty great. You loose 1kg per week, except no yo-yo. No coming back. I have PCOS, I tried to loose weight for the last 10 years. With more or less success but always yo-yo. The most I ever lost by myself was 20kg in one year but gained it all back the following year.
I hope the weight loss drugs will help you. I think this was great for me. But it really depends how old you are, early 30s loose weight first it will improve chances, but if you’re 40, then it’s a risk/benefit conversion with your doctor.

Also no, not NHS, I booked it privately but will try simultaneously to get NHS referral. I’m already with NHS fertility clinic and just got referred to rescuing miscarriage consultant. If NHS covers some of the costs great, but I’m prepared to pay for it if needed.
I’ll let you know how I get on in May. I’m afraid nothing exciting will happen until the first visit.

Hi AngnesTTC, hope your appointment went well today, I wonder if you would mind letting me know how it went so I know what to expect. My appointment was meant to be next week but has been moved to July so really want to know if it worth waiting for!

hi @Littlemissbeat. That sucks about the delay, but it will give you some time for weight loss?
Just been for the first visit with CRP. First an initial chat about our history and talking me through what they want to investigate and on the day they did the blood tests. The number of blood tests is no joke, no wonder it’s £3K when going privately, took 20 small vials of blood! Still, I’m glad I went. The NHS consultant in Croydon hospital was saying that the next step would be IVF with DNA check. Prof Shehata thinks IVF is unnecessary, since we don’t have a problem getting pregnant, we have a problem staying pregnant.
I’m dreading getting a positive pregnancy result just to have a negative a few days later. Hope the blood tests will help.
The wait for the results will be 2 weeks and based on that we will get the plan going, medication and scans etc. No trying to get pregnant while waiting, as that will likely just end with another early miscarriage. It’s better to spend the time optimising chances of success. He wants to put me on a protocol before I start trying again.
He did ask me to stop the Wegovy now. I did tell him that is how I lost the weight and he was very happy with that. I am scared that the weight will come back, but he is happy for me to increase my metformin intake, to prevent weight gain.
The things I can share that we got recommended today before we even have the blood test back. For the woman: pregnancy multivitamin + omega 3, vit d3 (50mcgs/2000units), low dose aspirin (75msg -to be taken in the evening after food), coenzyme Q10(600mg). For the man: Impryl (1 tablets daily), vit d3 (50mcg), coenzyme q10 (200mg daily),selenium (200mcg daily).
The no smoking or drinking and good quality sleep for 3 months before trying to increase quality of egg and sperm you probably already knew.
Thats all there was to today’s visit. Good luck! I hope it goes well for you!

Hi,
Sorry to butt in, but @AgnesTTC can I ask how long the doctor recommend you stay off mounjaro before actively TTC? Have been hearing conflicting timings.

Thanks xx
