2 back to back miscarriages :( Is there any hope?

Hi

I got pregnant in January and sadly started miscarrying on the 29th. I was about 4 weeks. Was given the go ahead to try again once bleeding stopped, which we did. I’ve gotten pregnant again this new cycle but we’ve lost it, again. It would be at the same stage as the last one, so I’m wondering what’s going wrong.

we are absolutely heartbroken. It’s our third miscarriage (we have an 8 month old between the 1st and the others). Is there any hope at all? I’ve looked at the stats and the odds are really not in our favour any more. I just can’t actually envision our future with another baby in it because I’ve convinced myself this will just keep happening. We’ve got an appt for recurrent mc clinic in June.

has anyone been through this and actually ended up having a healthy pregnancy?

I'm so sorry you're going through this. Have you spoken to your GP about progesterone? As early losses are often due to low levels.

LittleChicken11 · 25/02/2025 21:30

I’m sorry for your losses. I had four miscarriages, three within a year. Fifth pregnancy resulted in my perfect healthy baby boy. I was on meds for underactive thyroid, aspirin, progesterone and high strength folic acid. But the only thing I did different for my last pregnancy was acupuncture in the first 16 weeks. Not sure if it helped, or just a lucky coincidence but worth a shot! Good luck, I know how devastating it is.

so sorry OP 💐 I had two MC, both quite late in the first trimester. With third and fourth pregnancies my Dh and I were alcohol free and ate as nutritious a diet as we could manage for a couple of months before conceiving, and also took conception tailored supplements for a few months. I then used progesterone pessaries for the first 16 weeks. This combination worked for us. I know it’s so so hard to have hope when you’ve had such a difficult time. Sending strength.

Very sorry @Stardust127 I know it’s so painful.

I had 2 miscarriages followed by a healthy baby. My doctor told me miscarriages are more common than people realise because it’s not spoken about too often.

I'm sorry for your losses x
There are 4 years between my two children and between them I had two miscarriages so yes I think there is hope. xx

Thankyou for posting, that’s interesting no I haven’t spoken to her about it. I do have [minimal] knowledge of it though. Is it something you can take while ttc? As I seem to miscarry very early on so would need it pretty much straight away x

Oh bless you 💔 i could have written this 8 years ago.. but let me tell you that YES there is hope and there is light at the end of the tunnel...

I had my first DC, got pregnant straight away with no issues during pregnancy. We started trying for 2nd 12 years later and 3 miscarriages followed.. I really struggled mentally, physically and emotionally and I felt the same as you do.. i felt hopeless. But I have my rainbow baby 🌈 I know it's hard and it will impact on you mentally and its all that will be on your mind 24/7.. it hurts so much but please try to stay as positive as you can 🥰 you will feel exhausted and heartbroken and you are grieving losses, allow them feelings and give yourself time, but DONT GIVE UP! One thing that helped me get through it was thinking that there must have been something wrong with baby. Maybe baby wouldnt survive or have a poor quality of life. You may not think like this now, but it helped me massively, instead of blaming myself.

I would advise you go to the drs and ask for a full blood count/test to look for any abnormalities/deficiencies. I found out that I was deficient in Vitamin b12... pernicious anaemia was the official diagnosis. It may be something so easily fixable for you too.. after researching online I found there was a link between the 2. After my first injection replenishing my vitamin B12 I fell pregnant and carried full term and she is now a happy healthy 6 year old. We had an appt booked for recurrent miscarriages investigations the following month after my 3rd miscarriage, but by the time the appt came I was pregnant. I had the injections every 12 weeks until just last year when last blood test came back normal levels.

I’m so sorry for your losses too 😔 it’s a lot to go through isn’t it. I’m glad you got your precious baby following all the heartache. Someone else mentioned progesterone and I’m interested in exploring this, and also the aspirin. Is the aspirin something you need to do via your gp or can you just do it? A friend recommended it too. I take folic acid 5mg daily already as I’m on anti epilepsy meds.

super interesting about the acupuncture! I’m going to look into that too. I’m just so pessimistic at the moment all I want is to have a healthy pregnancy 🥲

Thank you so much ♥️ need all the strength I can get right now. I’m feeling very mentally weak. I already had to self refer to get counselling after the one last month because it hit me so hard.

I’m so sorry for your losses too 😔 it’s just such a difficult journey. I’m envious of those who seem to fall pregnant and have babies so easily. Im absolutely going to look into the progesterone as I’m hearing a lot about it and becoming more aware of it now. Is it something you already had in preparation to take as soon as you got pregnant or did you need to ask for it when and as?

I seem to miscarry so early on so I’m worried there won’t even be time to request it x

There is hope. After we lost two, we went private and got the progesterone ready to start taking the moment we had a positive test and it worked.

This is so reassuring thank you so much ♥️ I’m so sorry for your losses, I’m glad you got rainbow baby in the end 🥰 I’ve honestly never felt so broken, and I’ve been through a lot in life. Just the thought of trying again and again makes me mentally exhausted. I’m so frightened this will happen again. I am going to look into the progesterone as others have mentioned, and the aspirin. I’ll literally do anything. I met my husband when we were 30/31, so we’re aware we don’t have forever, which is even more daunting. This is all amazing advice thank you so much. I had full blood count, thyroid checked and diabetes blood work - all came back perfect. Even my iron levels which I was shocked at but I’d been taking supplements due to the mc x

Thank you so much for commenting. It’s so reassuring hearing these positive stories. I’m really interested in this progesterone, and like you, having it ready to take for if and when we do get pregnant again.we don’t mind going private for that either. Don’t mind me asking, how did you go about getting it through a private doctor? I honestly don’t know where to begin x

I had an 8 week and 20 week miscarriage between ds 1 and ds 2. My second one was due to preeclampsia so different to the first. Aspirin seemed to prevent it for ds2.

We just contacted the local private hospital and asked for an appointment with the gynaecologist. It was just a phone appointment in the end.

We said what had happened to us, that we wanted to try progesterone given we had done thorough research on what could have happened with the two we lost and that we had gone private as via the NHS we would need a third miscarriage before they did any investigations etc. He said we would need to go for a scan initially and when we asked how much would that be given we would be paying, he realised we were actually private patients and he just wrote out the prescription for progesterone and posted it to us that night.

We obviously had to pay for the appointment and the progesterone after that. I can't remember how much the appointment was but I think the actual progesterone was about £100-£120, which covered the first trimester, but then we managed to get a prescription from our normal GP.

Best wishes 🤞

I am so , so sorry for your losses 😔 I was reading last night about how aspirin can prevent preeclampsia. It’s so interesting how medicine can work like that, particularly as it is such a versatile medicine. Did you have to have it prescribed by your doctor or did you just take it?

Thank you all for your responses, I did an online consultation this morning to my d
GP about the possibility of taking progesterone in the luteal phase of my cycle. I don’t know if it will get approved, but our family doctor is so nice and seems to want to help where she can. Fingers crossed
