October 2023 I was treated with methotrexate for a ectopic pregnancy in my right tube. It was found at an early scan at 5 weeks and 4 days as id been experiencing bleeding and light pain. I’m now around 5 weeks pregnant and experiencing what is expected to be another ectopic. Had an early scan and there was nothing to be found, not even a gestational sac. I’m having bloods taken every 48 hours (2nd bloods tomorrow) and a scan on Thursday but I’ve started spotting again and have a stitch like pain on my right side. I’m fully prepared for another ectopic pregnancy and expect if my levels are below 1000 they will probably want to treat with methotrexate again. I think I’m going to ask for surgery instead. During the scan it was mentioned I have cysts around my endometrium and endometriosis was suggested as maybe a cause. Am I being irrational to rather have the tube removed as surely it is damaged for there to be 2 ectopics in a row? I feel like I’m not getting any younger and don’t want to keep getting pregnant for it to be ectopic again and keep damaging the tube further, it seems like a vicious cycle. The hospital are wanting to keep repeating bloods on the off chance I’m actually just a lot earlier than I think (I know I’m not as the last time I had sex was the 11th of January) also given I’ve started spotting and experience minor pain on the right side now I’ve already made my mind up this is another ectopic pregnancy. If you’ve read this far thank you.

Hi OP, so sorry you may be going through this again. With my ectopic I had my right tube removed at around 7wks due to internal bleeding. A couple of months later at a consultation I asked why if my hcg levels were so low (only reached around 78) they couldn't have given me methotrexate rather than remove my tube. I remember the consultant said once the tube has become damaged there is an higher increase of another ectopic again in the same place. How true that is I dont know as there seems to be such little evidence or information around ectopics which is so frustrating. The Ectopic Pregnancy Trust may be able to advise or ask to speak with a consultant at the EPU about removing x

@Readytotryagain i completely agree with you, I’m going through the same now. Had an ectopic in Feb. Was actually medically labelled a “PUL” because they couldn’t find the pregnancy but I’m positive it was in my left tube and they were going to treat it with methotrexate. It thankfully self resolved which was a miracle because my HCG was in the thousands at the time. 2 months later I am shocked to have gotten another BFP! (I have infertility and this was a natural conception, my previous loss and ectopic was from a clomid cycle). I’ve gotten the exact same pain in the same side again. Also the lower back pain and pressure in my bottom. I’m almost certain it’s another ectopic. It feels all too familiar. Unfortunately for me I found out at 3 weeks 2 days (9dpo) about this pregnancy so at the very earliest I still have an anxious 2WW.

if they’re able to locate this time, I’m asking them to take the tube. I agree with you that there is no point in repeatedly having ectopics from a damaged tube. Infertility, misscarriage and 2 ectopics is enough trauma for me to risk anymore heartbreak.

How have things turned out for you? I so hope you ended up with a successful pregnancy with no need for tube removal!

I agree remove it, I did and got pregnant 3 times after with one tube.
