Complicated miscarriage help

Hi all,

I miscarried twins in November, one early in the month. The second held on with a faint heartbeat, but it wasn’t growing, was in the wrong place, the sac was misshapen, etc. after the 3rd appointment at the EPU where they could still detect a heartbeat, they said they would transfer me to the terminations team because they couldn’t do anything, but it was inevitable. I got the pills on Nov 21, and went through the process that weekend. I didn’t bleed that heavily, but I started bleeding right away. Took the pregnancy test they gave me on Dec 16 and I thought it was negative.

I still haven’t had a period and it’s been over 8 weeks, haven’t had sex as wanted to wait until my period came back, then we could start trying again. Took a Boots brand pregnancy test today and it was faintly positive. Could it be it’s just taking ages for the hormones to clear? Could I have messed up the test in December? I’m panicking and have been in tears since this happened. EPU won’t be open until tomorrow, but I think I can call the terminations team over the weekend. Not thinking clearly and not sure what to do. Has anyone experienced similar?

So sorry to hear this OP, so upsetting and I imagine (having gone through similar) that the drawn out nature of it all was particularly traumatising.

My guess would be that you have retained tissue and that is resulting in the positive pregnancy test. I was told I needed to be scanned if still positive on test 4 weeks post miscarriage.

As an aside, the Skye High Foundation are an excellent resource for support relating to loss of twins or multiples. I highly recommend them.

Thank you, I’m so sorry you have also experienced this. It has been horrible, but I thought I had at least been able to draw a line under it. You must be right, I feel so stupid for somehow screwing up the test I took in December. Will call the hospital tomorrow.
