Hi
Looking for any information as my GP d0esnt do anything and my anxiety is through the roof as i had a similar extreme uncontrollable cough in my last pregnancy around 19 weeks and ended up losing our baby at 20 weeks ... the post mortem didn't reveal any obvious reasons and the doctors said that the cough wouldn't have caused it but given that history, I am really struggling at the moment

Basically I suddenly started with a itchy throat 3 days ago which has then turned into a very strong, dry cough that goes on for a while without giving me a break especially the nights ..my rib cage and back are hurting badly, I have been peeing a bit every time I get that fit of cough and nothing is helping to settle it e.g halls soothers, honey, warm water etc. I have also been diagnosed with a short-ish cervix(28mm) and been on monitoring ..the next one is on 23rd..so am also worried that am putting a lot of stress on my pelvic floor with so much coughing .. I am really worried if all of this will hurt my pregnancy again 😢 I know all articles say the cough in itself won't harm the baby but given how a lot of things are inter connected which we don't even understand very well medically, and how much my body is pushed with all the coughing it really does worry me

Has anyone had a similar experience that resulted in a miscarriage late in pregnancy or any simular experience where you did something different to get timely treatment to help with the pregnancy?

Would be grateful for any tips please

I have absolutely no medical knowledge so i don't know if this is possible when pregnant but could you ask for an inhaler? I get horrendous coughs that last months and every now and again the dr will give me an inhaler which makes a real
difference.

I hope it gets better soon.

No

Go check if you’ve a chest infection. You will need antibiotics

I would ask for a blue inhaler

Anecdotally I coughed throughout my first pregnancy and she arrived safely real coughing where I thought I would need to change my pants kinda coughing my coworker said it would last till I had the baby she was right I went into hospital with a cough came out without

I am sorry to hear about your baby. I have asked my obstetrician the same question about coughing. I was coughing so much I was convinced there would be a problem. He assured me that this was not something to worry about and the baby is well padded in fluid etc.

rather than the GP, can you contact maternity assessment? Are you getting some extra appointments and support after your previous experience?

WhatMe123 · 19/12/2024 13:11

No as they're in a bag of fluid floating around but maybe get yourself check out op 😁

Thanks everyone for your replies 😊 I went and got myself checked with the doctor... there isn't any infection so they didn't prescribe any medications yet... the cough has reduced but not completely gone yet ... drinking lots of liquids ; things that are helping manage it are - warm milk with turmeric and black pepper( really effective) , steam inhaling, halls soothers ... hopefully i will feel completely better soon 🤞the doctor also did a scan and assured the baby is doing fine
