Missed miscarriage

Hi all, I was 10 weeks pregnant and went for a private scan last week which showed no heart beat and the baby had stopped developing at 8 weeks. I feel completely blindsided by this as I still have constant nausea and vomiting so thought everything was fine. I want surgical treatment rather than medical and want it sooner rather than later. Unfortunately they can’t do a procedure under GA until the end of the week. They’ve offered me a MVA for tomorrow but I’m terrified about the pain from what I’ve read on here. Has anyone had a MVA and felt they would recommend it? And does anyone have any positive stories regarding TTC after a MVA for older women? Feeling pretty low.

I’m so sorry to hear your news, sending you lots of love

my second mc was a missed one, discovered at 10 weeks too. I opted for waiting for things to happen naturally however it took 11 days and then I was hospitalised as I started to haemorrhage.

not trying to scare you but the waiting was horrific for me and I vow that if it ever happens again I would have treatment as quickly as possible.

i ended up having a medical management in hospital and although there were cramps it was manageable and over relatively quickly. I wish you all the best

My heart goes out to you. My MMC was the worst time of my life.

I had the surgical management under GA so can't comment, unfortunately, but it depends how strong you feel mentally to be awake during it.

Make sure you advocate for yourself and read up on RPOC, luckily I had my hCG tracked and I pushed when it stopped dropping, but they tried to fob me off. Just mentioning so you don't waste precious TTC time afterwards.

And please take it easy on yourself. Feel free to say no to doing things you don't want to. Look after you.

So sorry, it’s awful. I opted to wait for surgical under GA (it was about 12 days wait) and it was the right choice for me. It was painless and I got pregnant again immediately so please don’t give up hope!

I’m so sorry for your loss.
I had a MMC 2 years ago and like you continued having strong pregnancy symptoms so it was a shock.

I waited for the D&C under GA. The waiting was dreadful and I could barely think of anything else. But, the hospital staff were lovely and I went in on a Wednesday evening, had the op on Thursday morning, was back on the ward by 10.15 and home by lunchtime.

You’re going through so much at the moment, take it one day at a time and be extra kind to yourself. Sending hugs.

Sending love. Sorry I have no advice about alternative treatment but I had the surgical management under GA and would recommend for the quick recovery time x

I had the MVA for my first MMC and have opted for this option again this coming Tuesday for my second miscarriage.
Its ok. It is painful but for me, based in the first time, it was painful in the moment but I recovered well and there was little to no bleeding afterwards. It lasts 15/20mins and there is gas and air which I didn’t take last time but am going to try this time.

Thanks everyone for your support and messages. I had the MVA and I can honestly say it was not as bad as I imagined. It felt a bit uncomfortable and some period cramps/pressure. Afterwards a bit of heavy bleeding and period cramps but they settled within 24 hours. Feeling very emotional today (more so than any other day) but I imagine my hormones are all over the place at the moment.

@Running4pizza I had mine today via MVA too. It was so much better with gas the second time round. If anyone comes across this thread; take the gas!
Im so so sorry for your loss. I know how you are feeling. I hope you heal and go on to have a successful pregnancy xx

Running4pizza · 26/11/2024 19:01

@Running4pizza
A positive story for you- I had exactly the same as you at 36.
It was bloody horrible and I was a complete bitter mess for ages afterwards.
Couldn't even think about ttc for at least a year. Got pregnant first try at 37, textbook pregnancy (asides the constant puking) and now have a 5 yo DD.

I've just had the medical management at 8 weeks. I took the medication this morning. The bleeding started about 2 hours after taking, then the cramps/contractions were very intense for about 3 hours. It's easing already pain wise, although they're still there. I hope you're recovering well ❤️ x

Running4pizza · 27/11/2024 23:28

@Eirlys75 hope the pain and bleeding continues to ease. My bleeding and pain has pretty much settled now. Felt like I had the worst PMT yesterday and today with mood swings but hoping tomorrow is better. Sending you lots of good wishes
