When to try again after C section

Hello,
Unfortunately when I gave birth in May my baby boy Oscar was stillborn at 36 weeks, via emergency C section
I would love to ttc soon but have heard mixed opinions on when I can, more recently being the consultant said 2 years birth to birth…I could cry at the thought of waiting this long! What are some of your opinions/experiences?
TIA xx

So sorry to hear about your loss, it is a really difficult time for you to come to terms with and still very new.

Gently the medical experts ( with many years training and practice) have told you to wait ideally 2 years between births which means not getting pregnant until 15 months post the c section and you are asking for personal stories from non medics - listen to the medics. Online advice is to wait at least 12 months before getting pregnant.

Of course you might get pregnant earlier but you will be considered at higher risk as your body won't have fully healed and replenished minerals etc. You put yourself at higher risk of abruption and many other complications - not all of which are redeemable.

Some will give you individual experiences when it worked out ok getting pregnant earlier but sadly a number won't ( my niece included, she had a still birth with an emergency c section and then got pregnant before the 12 months for her rainbow baby. This resulted in a traumatic 2nd c section which sadly resulted in near death for her and the loss of the 2nd baby. (Medics believe this was due to insufficient time to heal ).

It's really hard but you should listen to the medics and give yourself the time to heal properly physically and mentally for a healthy pregnancy.

I’m so sorry for your loss. That does seem like a really long time and I know I wouldn’t be able to wait that long. I have a lot of friends who have had c sections fairly close together. My consultant who was one the heads of the royal college of obs and gyn told me that ideally I should only get pregnant one year after the birth of my baby, so his advice wasn’t two years. I guess they are just hoping women allow themselves to heal but it is also a balance with age and other factors. Wishing you much better times for the future.

Hi,
First of all I'm very sorry to hear about Oscar.

Just to share my experience. My first baby was born through an emergency Caesarian section. I got pregnant again 6/7 months later, and this baby was born via a very easy natural delivery (14 mths after the section).

None of my doctors/midwives voiced any concern about my second pregnancy being so soon after the Caesarian section.

I was a little worried about going through a natural delivery so soon after a section - but the doctors encouraged me to me to have the baby this way (rather than opting for another section).
I know this is only my experience, but I wanted to share with you.
Best wishes!
