MMC how long can this take?

I just got the news there is no heartbeat at 8 weeks. I was expecting it as at my last scan it was very small and I knew when I ovulated. I’m currently going with the waiting option but as I’ve had zero pain/bleeding and really no symptoms apart from tender boobs. I know no one can give me a definite time frame but has anyone has to wait several weeks? If so I don’t think I can do that and may opt for another option. I’m afraid of the risks of surgery and the pain of the tablets.

Hi @SophieRules I am really sorry for your loss 🫂❤️ I had 2 MMC. My 1st one I started bleeding just before my 12 weeks scan so I opted for natural miscarry but then ended up with an MVA as I didn’t pass everything. The 2nd one was just last month and I opted for medical management but I had 2 weeks waiting in which nothing happened.
I totally understand your fears…there’s no pleasant way to miscarry..it’s always bad! I really hope things will go the way you wish and this horrible time will be over soon…I send u a big hug…🫂

Sorry you’re going through this, it truly is an awful experience. I recently opted for medical management of a missed miscarriage in July as I was 9 weeks and development had stopped at 7 weeks and I also had no bleeding etc. in that time.
I don’t intend to scare you with my experience and everyone is different but I had very heavy bleeding (they referred me to A&E due to bleeding through 3 pads in an hour but luckily didn’t need any fluids/transfusion etc) but the pain was surprisingly manageable with paracetamol and hot water bottles. The bleeding completely stopped within a week so it didn’t go on for too long.
There is another MMC thread that I’m on where some of the ladies had the surgical option and have had varying experiences but it was very helpful when I was going through it (and is still active now if you want to join!)
If I ever had to do it again I’d probably opt for surgical just because the bleeding was so scary at the time but it did work and no further treatment was needed which I was thankful for. Tommys org had a decent explanation of the options if that would help with your decision.

Sending love in this awful time x

I am so sorry OP, it’s a truly horrible experience. I’ve had 3 MMC and have had experience of all 3 options. The first I had surgical intervention - I was extremely traumatised by the MMC and I think wanted to get it all over with - but I did have a complication (a horrible problem with my hand) but everything else was straightforward.

The second time within a few days I began to miscarry naturally. No complications but it was a bit painful and I found it sad and quite traumatic.

The third time I took the medication. I had cramps and bleeding - though I slept through some of it -and faced with that decision again I would choose this option. There was bleeding but not for long. I had cramps which were painful and continued to twinge the following day, but it was all manageable. I felt more in control of everything and it was all over quite quickly.

On a more positive note I went on to have a successful pregnancy and my DC is now 14. Wishing you well OP and hope things go well in the future. I’m truly sorry for your loss and for the losses of the other posters. It’s a loss like no other.
