Hello! Earlier on in the summer I miscarried in my first trimester, I took a week off work because of it. At first my manager seemed supportive but when I returned he made an insensitive comment. He said “I told HR your sob story because that sums you up haha” which I’m not sure is some sort of sick joke but either way. He has since been unkind with me and this week implied I didn’t actually need a day off when I took a sick day for my mental health. Would I be valid in contacting HR myself? Thank you.

Fucking hell that's dreadful

It's discriminatory and that is illegal. Sex is a protected characteristic, so is pregnancy.

You must report this as harassment.

(I did my bully and harassment training Monday it's harassment as it's a protected characteristic)

I'm so sorry about your loss.

I several losses and once I had a miscarriage and didn't tell my direct boss. I told him when I got back and he said "don't feel you have to tell me everything, something are best to be private"

What a twat.

Contact HR asap! Awful behaviour!
So sorry you had to deal with that on top of the miscarriage x

That’s really rubbish of him.

I’m so sorry you’re having to deal with this on top of everything else. What an idiot.

Report it to HR. He needs some training (not that it’s a replacement for a functioning sensitivity chip, but it’ll be something).

In the meantime, continue to look after what you need right now.

That is so bad, he should be sacked, what a knob! Definitely go to HR directly and get proof where possible of everything he has said/is saying. Sounds like a misogynistic pig!

Well I absolutely agree with all the comments here. Your manager should be removed from their post immediately. That is truly disgusting behaviour and those comments must not be tolerated!

Thank you all for your replies. I have decided I will be contacting HR. I have written out what has happened, unfortunately I don’t have physical proof as it was all said in person, and I will be sending it once I have found a new job or if the environment continues to be uncomfortable I may get a sick note until I have found somewhere else to go and then will send it. I can’t help but feel bad that doing so may cost him his job though.
