Recurrent miscarriage - genetic issue?

I have been pregnant twice and both times miscarried at 12 weeks, following a positive scan at 8 weeks. I have PCOS and needed help to conceive, but otherwise we are healthy (and aged low 30s).

The first loss was due to Turner Syndrome, which we were told was random and just bad luck. But now having had a second identical loss, I have heard there is a chance it could be genetic - that either DP or I is repeatedly passing a problem on. Does this mean there is no hope of conceiving with our own eggs / sperm?

There could also be another unidentified underlying issue. We are awaiting test results now, which will take some time. Has anyone been in a similar position? Any advice?

Hi, I'm so sorry for what you are going through. I'm not sure how it works where you live (I, in the Netherlands), but you could both do extensive genetic DNA screening to see if you are both carrier of a recessive gene. If that's the case then you could consider an IVF/ICSI procedure where they first perform genetic screening of the embryos before they place them. So there is hope and probably covered from insurance as this is a medical issue.

Also may I ask, was it a missed miscarriage and the embryo's heart stopped beating earlier than 12 weeks, at both times?

Here is a link to the procedure of screening the embryo's before placing them. https://fertility.womenandinfants.org/treatment/preimplantation-genetic-testing

A Guide to Preimplantation Genetic Testing (PGT) | Fertility Center

Schedule your test. PGT finds genetic defects during IVF so Embryologists can increase your chances for a successful pregnancy with healthy embryos.

Hey. Sorry for what you are going through, I have been through IVF and PGT myself, if you have any questions please ask x

@Chunk23 sorry to jump on but you are the first person I’ve seen mention going through PGT testing - do you mind me asking if this was NHS treatment please and if so, did they put you on birth control while you were in the waiting list?

We are considering IVF with PGT at the moment but were told we couldn’t try naturally when waiting and the list where we are is 18 months, which feels like a long time to waste.

Hey firstbaby2024,
so my partner has a genetic condition which entitles us to 3 rounds of ivf on the nhs with PGT. Trying naturally wasn’t an option for us as we’d risk passing his condition to the baby so we just went straight down the ivf route. There was no wait time at all. Where are you? X
