Tips for conceiving after 2 miscarriages

Hello everyone,

I’m not sure if I’ve chosen the correct topic but hopefully someone sees me here🙏it’s a long one…

I am 33 years old and have a little boy who was born in November 2021. I conceived my son pretty much straight away after coming off the pill
which I’d been on for around 13 years. Healthy straightforward pregnancy with no problems at all.

I conceived again in October 2023 after trying for around 8 months. I sadly lost this baby at 8 weeks just a few days before Christmas😢we started trying again straight away and conceived in February 2024 but sadly had another miscarriage at 5 weeks.

After this second miscarriage my epu offered to give me blood tests which came back all clear. Since then (March 2024) I have pretty much been living like I already am pregnant to try and help me conceive again. Here’s a list of everything I have been doing; I don’t drink alcohol or any caffeine at all including chocolate, having quite a strict diet - leafy greens, wholegrains, sweet potatoes, beetroot, nuts/seeds, lots of
citrus fruits & berries, not having any real treats/sweets/cakes etc, been keeping my feet warm, having hot drinks (herbal teas), no strenuous exercise. I use clearblue digital
ovulation tests & dh & I bd alot during my fertile window. I had been taking maca root powder for a few months but felt it was just delaying my period each month so I stopped taking that.

I do feel like I may have low progesterone which I will be requesting next time I become pregnant but I feel like I may be helping my progesterone levels with my diet as I haven’t been having spotting before my period which I usually have.

With my first 3 times conceiving I didn’t really do anything specific to help me I just didn’t drink alcohol or caffeine which I haven’t done since becoming pregnant with my son, I breastfed him for 28 months & just have never went back to drinking alcohol or caffeine, knowing that I wanted to have another baby soon. So I’m getting incredibly frustrated & tired of ‘trying’ so hard to conceive again.

My next step I feel is to try & cut out all chemically harmful things; no perfume, scented shower gel etc has anyone got any recomendations of cleaning products to use in my home/on myself
etc. Or any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

thank you :)

My friend was advised by a doctor to take a once a day antihistamine after 2 miscarriages following her first successful pregnancy. She conceived quite soon afterwards and had a lovely DD. I don’t know the science behind it but she’d had loads of investigations beforehand.

joanneligthelm · 10/08/2024 17:51

A baby aspirin low dose every dsy

I did fertility acupuncture after 2 years of trying and 2 miscarriages. It may have been coincidence but i fell pregnant the following cycle. Best of luck xx

I'm sorry to hear all you've been through. I have a ds born may 21 fell pregnant in December 23 and had a MMC at 12 wks in February. I felt like I just wasn't getting pregnant and worried it wasn't going to happen so I decided to try preseed. Fell pregnant that cycle and I'm now 8 weeks (and hoping this one is our rainbow). Could you maybe try that?

Oh really just a normal antihistamine? I’ll maybe ask my Doctor about that, thank you :)

Thank you, do you get that just at a normal acupuncture place? How long did you get it done for? xx

@jellyfish2 thank you. What is preseed & how long did you take it before you conceived? Congratulations on your rainbow mama🌈🤍

@joanneligthelm thanks, did you try this and did it help you conceive? Did you take it every single day until you fell pregnant? x

@Shan1991 no advice I’m afraid but just wanted to let you know you’re not alone - I’m in the same boat, a son end 2021 then in the last 12 months two MMC both at 11 weeks. Reading for tips but I’ve not made massive lifestyle changes - diet fairly good and a drink caffeine and alcohol moderately. I start acupuncture in a couple of weeks not least because I think the time and focus on myself will be beneficial mentally and physically.

Thank you 🥰 it's a sperm friendly lube, maybe a bit of a mood killer but needs must and I was surprised I got pregnant first month using it.

I'm so sorry you've been through that. What's your husband doing in terms of his diet and lifestyle? I'd say look at that next if there's room for improvement!

jellyfish2 · 10/08/2024 20:27

@Shan1991 I just ordered it online. It has an applicator so I just went to the toilet before we dtd inserted the liquid and off we went 😂

@neverwakeasleepingbaby thank you. My husband eats the same as me so quite healthy & does quite a lot of exercise but other than that he hasn’t really tried much else. I’ve tried to get him to not drink for a few months but he likes a wee beer too much🙄so it seems to be all on me to be honest! xx

Think it would be a good idea for him to have tests as it’s a 50/50 mix. Just to rule anything out.

I'm so sorry for your losses. I've been on this journey and come out the other side. I had a healthy first pregnancy which resulted in my son. I then lost 4 babies in a row (3 missed miscarriages and an earlier loss). I saw countless specialists mix of nhs and private and what I learned was you really need to read up and be determined.
First of all if you haven't already buy and read It Starts with the Egg by Rebecca Fett. Some of it is aimed at IVF journey, you can ignore certain chapters that aren't relevant. The book gives advice on supplements. I took methylated folate instead of folic acid. Ubiquinol and NAC, and Impryl for my partner. I gave up all caffeine, alcohol and gluten and replaced some kitchen items to bpa free. Some people might think that's a lot but I really was so sad to have lost my babies and I was determined to try anything.
There is a good FB group called UK miscarriages storms and rainbows that was really helpful for me both as a knowledge base and support network.
Review all your bloods, get thyroid antibodies not just thyroid function and iron. Take results to a recurrent miscarriage specialist to interpret.
If you can afford it, go privately. Unfortunately it does seem offer more options for treatment protocols for recurrent miscarriage. Look into immune protocols, choose a specialist that factors these as well.
In the end I saw one private dr and she solved in 30 mins what countless doctors couldn't in a year. I was prescribed blood thinners, progesterone, steroids and levothyroxine and gave birth to my healthy baby 10 months after leaving her clinic.
Don't give up! And don't forget to look after your own mental health. Wishing you brighter times ahead x

Quaver9 · 10/08/2024 22:16

Currently in the same boat, I take the following;

Pregnancare conception max
B12 - 1000ug
Vit c - 1000
CoQ10 - 300mg
Vit d - 2000iu
Omega 3 - 1000mg

My partner also takes most of the above too and his standard vit is the well man one.

if you haven’t already, read it starts with the egg, although you seem to be doing most of its recommendations already.

I use kat & kin for the non toxic products

im going through more tests with hosp, found out last week my right tube is blocked. Left ok. Even though my gp said bloods ok I think I have a few areas which could be improved and will be paying to see a consultant privately soon as I’ve been waiting so long now on the nhs

also trying fertility acupuncture next week! x

@Quaver9 I’m sorry for everything you’re going through. I hope you get your happy ending🌈🤍

Do you take Pregnacare as well as all the other supplements you listed below or were you just listing what’s vitamins are included in the pregnacare? Thank you for the non toxic recommendations.

Take care xx
