Hi everyone - writing on behalf of my sister again.

She very sadly found at 9.5 week scan last week that baby had stopped developing (BFP following IUI treatment).
Went into hospital and was given tablets to bring on miscarriage.

She eventually passed the sac etc and was sent home.

The nursing staff were absolutely fantastic but the medical side has been a bit hit and miss so just wanted to check something.
She has a follow up appointment with the fertility clinic in May to discuss poss future treatment but she hasnt got any further appotintments re. the miscarriage.
Because they saw the sac does this mean she doesnt need any further checks to make sure everything went?

I'm guessing she just needs to keep an eye out for obvious signs of infection - like discharge / temperature ???

Thanks x

PS. My sis is more than cacpable of speaking for herself but she cant face visiting any websites.
1/ miscarriage ones because she finds them too upsetting
2/ parenting ones because she doesnt feel like she belongs because she hasnt got any children

I don't think they need to do anything unless she gets a temperature.
How sad x

Unfortunatly at most hospitals they don't give you any followup at all after a mc. Not that medically they need to, but it would be nice to see someone, talk about it, and kind of be given the all clear to go ahead again.

If she has any sort of smelly discharge or a temp, then she should go to her GP.

The Miscarriage Association do have a really good forum, but know what she means. Have been there myself

Well. I am very biased here, because I had a lot of complications after a mmc and ERPC at 12 weeks. I won't go into details here but in my opinion I think everybody should get a scan to make sure that the uterus is empty/looks normal. Now, I didn't and it would have saved me months of worrying and avoided me developing post-traumatic stress.

I would suggest that she should ask for a scan if her periods do not return after 8-12 weeks.

On another note, I know this is no consolidation when you are grieving for your loss, BUT: a lot of things seem to have worked out, so it seems that the chances are very good that it will work after another IUI treatment o r even without depending on the exact reasons.

Good luck. What a great sister you are!

Hi all - thanks so much for the added messages. Really really useful and I'll make sure she keeps an eye out for infection.

Just reading Oinkers very sad thread about her treatment. it just seems unbelievable that women get such terrible treatment with no real consistency over care .
