Chromosonal issues?

Hello everyone

I’ve had 2 miscarriages - 1 blighted ovum and 1 which the consultant said was likely caused by chromosonal issues (waiting for tests on the embryo to come back atm).

given these are both chromosonal issues is there anything that can be done to prevent it happening again?

has anyone who’s been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic been given help on this?! Feels like progesterone wont do the trick?!

thanks everyone for reading and im sorry that you find yourselves on the miscarriage Thread 😢

Hi there Confusedandtired90,
Sorry for your losses. Unfortunately, if they were both caused by chromosomal issues there is nothing you can do. Unfortunately, it is a fact that there is very often an issue with a sperm or egg that causes an issue and a miscarriage occurs. If you have seen and read many of the conversations about IVF you may have seen that there are times when a number of eggs are retrieved and either found not suitable or they are fertilised and dont develop properly. When they do grow and multiply well they can do tests to grade the embryos to see which of them might be more suited to the pregnancy journey. So you can see from this that good quality sperm and egg are essential to finally getting a baby and this doesnt happen every month at all.

If you were to go down the IVF route you could pay extra, I believe, for embryo selection to give you the best chance but I humbly suggest that you are probably not at that point yet and you may have just been incredibly unlucky.

My advice would be to give it another go and see what happens (painful as it is!!). If you experience this again then ask your doctor for a referral to a miscarriage clinic.
