Early miscarriage/informing manager

Hi,
I’m approximately 7 weeks 2 days pregnant but an early ultrasound last week dated me 5 weeks which was a little bit concerning. Over the past 48 hours I’ve experienced light bleeding which has now turned into fresh blood and I’m now experiencing cramping.
I went to the EPAU this evening and it was confirmed I have a very faint positive pregnancy test, HCG is only 116, but my cervix is still closed so this was the only good sign.
I need to return in 48 hours to have my HCG levels retested and I have an ultrasound in 6 days.
There are multiple reasons here to think the pregnancy isn’t progressing as normal and possibly ended at around 5 weeks.
I am wondering whether to notify my manager as I’m experiencing pain and blood loss which I feel quite uncomfortable about whilst at work, not to mention my head doesn’t feel in the right place to concentrate properly. I don’t want to say I’m miscarrying if I’m not despite the signs pointing that way.
Does anyone have any advice? Thanks x

This sounds painfully familiar to me last year, I think you know the outcome sadly.

I would just tell them you are unwell and can't come in, and do the explaining afterwards. Any pregnancy related time off doesn't count as sick leave and you still get paid.

Can you just tell them you're unwell? At least until you have certainty either way. I was quite open with my manager when I had MC, as ended up having two weeks off, and it helped me to be honest with them.

I decided to tell my manager this morning what I suspected was happening and she was supportive. I made it home from work before miscarrying which I’m thankful for, I feel I need to contact my manager now to let her know I think I need some time. Do you need a note from your doctor to approve time off?

You'll need a doctor's note for more than 5 days off, up to them you can self certify

Sorry for your loss
