Facing my third MMC, feeling lost

Hi everyone

Had an early scan yesterday due to 3 previous losses (2 MMCs and a chemical). Bub measuring small, should be 7 weeks but measuring 6+1 and really slow heart rate which has a very bad prognosis. Follow up scan in a week - last time I had 2 follow ups before the heart beat stopped. If it's over I just want to be done with it now. I'm heartbroken. I still have strong nausea and sore boobs and it feels so unfair. I don't get pregnant quickly either (this one took 9months since my last loss). I just don't know how much more of this I can take.

I'm so sorry.

Have you had any investigations?

I had three miscarriages: one chemical, one at 7w and one at 12w, before being put on blood thinners. I took aspirin from the outset of my next pregnancy and started on heparin at 5w and this seemed to do the trick and led to a successful pregnancy.

I'm not saying this is your issue but just to give you hope that even after 3 MC it can still happen.

There are simple blood tests that can be done as your first port of call and your GP may be able to run these.

@GoneIsAnotherSummersDay thank you. I've had all the blood tests done and they all came back normal - i was so sure I had a clotting disorder as my mum had a DVT when she was 37 but nope!

I haven't had genetic testing done - if this is an MMC I'm going to go for surgical management again and push for that. The last 2 have been identical in how they've happened and I struggle to believe it's just a coincidence.

So pleased for you that you got your rainbow in the end xx

I’m so sorry to hear you’re going through this. I’ve had one ectopic and 2 MMC and am just pregnant again and very anxious.

Yes, I would push for genetic testing. For me, this explained my most recent loss (trisomy 21) and it was good to have that information. I also had karyotyping which showed a genetic condition on my side, though likely unrelated to my losses.

Hope you are getting good support from epu xx

@Prettyflowersallyear thank you. I really hope this one sticks for you. How far along are you if you don't mind me asking?

Good to know about the genetic testing. Can I ask how it was done, does the hospital do it or does it have to get sent off? I'm not sure how to ask about it.

My EPU and GP are both helpfully fantastic, I'm very lucky in that regard. I've heard some horror stories on here about some not being supportive at all! I know I want surgical management if it is another MMC and doesn't happen naturally, and last time they were very respectful when I said I knew exactly what I wanted so that was good. Xx

Hi,

The testing for the baby is called cytogenetic testing I think - the hospital did that and I got the results about 8 weeks later.

The genetic testing for me was karyotyping and the RMU did that.

Im just over 5 weeks at the moment and have a scan with the RMU in two weeks, which of course I am dreading as I now have such bad experiences of scans. Xx

@Prettyflowersallyear thank you, I got asked last time if I wanted the baby tested and I said yes but never heard back! I'll be more forceful this time as I'm desperate to get some sort of reason why this keeps happening to me.

Good luck with the scan and this pregnancy - really hope this one sticks x

Thank you and I’m wishing you all the best too (I think we’re all brave to go through this multiple times).

I had to sign a form before my surgical management to agree to the cytogenetic testing, so make sure you ask about this if you are in the same situation. X
