Did anyone find the cause of their miscarriage?

Just as the title says really, I wondered if anyone found out the cause of theirs?

I’ve ttc#3 since December 2022 and have had two chemicals and two miscarriages. I’ve found out today that I’m likely to miscarry again due to limited growth but will have that confirmed at a scan next week.
Although I’m unlikely to try again, the not knowing why is really eating away at me. My first and second were conceived so quickly and such straightforward pregnancies that this has all been quite hard for me to get my
head around.
I tested positive for ‘sticky blood’ but was pregnant by the time I was due to have my second blood test so can’t be sure that was an issue for me either.

Just interested in others experiences xx

I don’t think they can ever categorically say the reason why unless it’s something like a genetic abnormality and they have been able to test the foetal cells. There are just too many variables. I have sticky blood, but many people with it don’t even know and it’s not a problem for them. I have also had a lot of miscarriages and the only one I knew why it happened was because they tested the product and had chromosomal abnormalities. We were genetically tested and there were no issues.

Sorry for your losses, it’s hard when you never really know what wrong. Miscarriages are so common, it’s a miracle so many people have babies!

I don't think I'll ever get over not knowing the reason why I had my MMC (found out at 12 week scan). I think about it everyday and I try not to let it eat away at me but it's difficult not having the answers. We're about to TTC again but I'm so nervous and convinced there's something wrong with me because of it. It's definitely changed me unfortunately.

I feel the same @jellyfish2 , the not knowing is awful. In my case I was probably doing everything I could have, aspirin, clexane and progesterone but can’t help but think of something else I was missing.

@Revelatio I was so naive to this world with my first two, didn’t even occur to me that something could go wrong or I’d need early scans. You are so right, it’s a complete miracle that it does actually work out.

You can get blood tests if you want to check if you have 1 of the 3 types that can lead to increased miscarriage. I have had 2 and sadly the threashold to get the testing free on NHS is having 3 (clearly set by a man) so despite having a daughter I won't know if I'm a carrier because I have no partner and likely peri atm! If I were young and struggling with this I'd ask my GP whether it's an option anyway x

I had an MMC in the Autumn. Private tests showed that I was very low on vitamin D and positive for anti nuclear antibodies, either of which or both could well have been a factor. On the other hand it could equally been a chromazone abnormality or something entirely different. I am now on 4000 iu per day of vit D among other things and have been told the antibodiies are now negative so maybe I will be luckier next time, although it seems to be taking a while!

I had a miscarriage a week ago, having been told I’d had a MMC a few days earlier. I have an appointment with a consultant next week to talk about it, so I’m hoping he might have some insight.

I’ve been told most miscarriages before 12 weeks are to do with genetics, but I keep recounting everything I did and trying to work out what I did wrong. I’m currently wondering if I exercised more than I should have. I stopped doing the high impact class and took my other classes easy thinking I was doing the right thing by exercising, but maybe I should have rested instead.

Sorry for your losses.

ThelastRolo20 · 30/04/2024 06:59

@Sorka it's so easy to blame ourselves but I promise you exercising was not the cause. It was either going to work out, or it wasn't from a chromosome/ developing POV. Exercise is really healthy - in my.successful pregnancy I ran throughout the first trimester.

In my two subsequent pregnancies in which I had MMCs (one at 12 and one at 10 weeks) I did a lot less.

This process is hard enough without blame x

xxcxdonxx · 30/04/2024 11:51

@CarInsurance the rule of 3 is really cruel isn’t it. I understand that they are common but they are also a really heartbreaking process to go through.
What’s the blood tests for?

That’s the difficult thing @Objectiontime , even if I knew the cause of it that’s not to say that there couldn’t be a new thing next time.

@Sorka I am the same and wondering about anything I’ve done or not done but as Rolo says, it’s no one’s fault. Hoping you get some answers at your consultants appointment next week.

There are types of thrombophilias that can cause inappropriate clotting. I wanted to know as I recently had a clot on the lung and they asked about MC but because I only had 2 they still won't check my blood to see if I have the disorder. I wanted to know also because my daughter might also then struggle with clotting and miscarriage.

Deficiencies are often overlooked by NHS too so if you are doing bloods get a copy of the results and check online. NHS levels are very low and are not based on prevention, so if you have a deficiency within their version of "normal" it can still be very low and cause issues.
