Clexane and aspirin after one loss? Just had a positive test

Hi all. After an MMC in Jan it looks like we are pregnant again. I had a consultation with a private clinic last month to put a plan in place for next pregnancy.

They recommended Clexane which I wasn't expecting. I am 38 next month, and I did mention that had "sticky" blood after suffering from Long Covid but I don't have any diagnosis of such. I also mentioned blood clots in the family.

I am of course going to speak with them again before I do anything. But I just wondered if anyone had taken Clexane preventatively after only one loss? I don't want to put myself through daily injections for nothing but then also if it's not going to hurt the pregnancy, and may help it, then is it worth a shot?

They have also said they will monitor my progesterone and give suppositories if needed.

I think I will take baby aspirin regardless.

Urgh. Too many thoughts

I'm not sure what sticky blood is but most early miscarriages are a problem with the egg rather than a problem with you, look at the statistics of successful pregnancies after miscarriage, that might reassure you?

I had an early miscarriage in 2021, my next pregnancy was successful and I'm now 29 weeks pregnant with our second without doing anything differently. The NHS won't see you until after a 3rd miscarriage because statistically you're more likely to have a successful pregnancy than not next time

Good luck with your pregnancy, pregnancy after loss is really hard, try to relax as difficult as I'm sure that feels right now

@justanotherlaura thank you. I was so anxious I just probably wasted a lot of money on private consultations etc and possibly they just want to sell me things. I have no real reason to think I have a blood clotting issue, just a whole lot of health anxiety!

I'll see how the next few weeks go...

Did they test for FVL/thr other sticky blood thing? I actually do have FVL (discovered after 2 losses) so used clexane. Maybe because youre 38 too they want to err on the side of caution?

Private clexane prescriptions are £££ but NHS will prescribe if you are found to have one of the disorders

@JanewaysBun they didn't test, though I was considering paying for a test. I got pregnant faster than I was expecting so didn't get round to it! I know the NHS won't prescribe so I guess I just need to weigh up the costs of taking something I may not need just in case...

I spoke with my consultant at the private clinic just now and he still seems keen to start it as a precaution, but I am also conscious that they also are a business and want to make money...

I would take the test, if you want to i suppose you could do clexane til the results come through. Mine were pretty quick.

Thank you @JanewaysBun , I probably will. Whilst I know one miscarriage is likely chromosomal I would rather do what I can to avoid having another, even though a second could still be just chromosomal.

I hope everything worked out for you once they caught your FVL 💞
