Secondary Infertility

Hello. Looking for secondary infertility advice. I have a healthy nearly 5 year old. In the last 21 months I’ve had 6 miscarriages (one missed and discovered at 12 week scan, 5 at around 5 weeks). I have been referred to recurrent miscarriage clinic but waiting list is long. I went to a private gynae last year who discovered no obvious causes (although I have been told that they might be too ‘general’ and it’s a recurrent loss specialist that I need). Just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences that they could share to give me some hope for the future. I know how lucky I am to have my son but it’s a primal urge in me to give him a sibling and I’m not ready to hang up the towel yet. I’m 38 and feel like time is ticking fast now 💔 Thank you 🙏🏻

I was referred to Professor Quenby in Coventry. You can be referred to any clinic in the country and her waiting list is around 8 weeks I think, you just have to ask your GP to refer to her.

She was brilliant and got me a plan after 3 miscarriages. I'm now bfing my 4 week old after getting pregnant and following her plan.

I had my son very easily, conceived in the first month. When I tried again we struggled to get pregnant and when we did I miscarried, 5 times.

I think our issue with with ExH sperm. All tests on me were fine but he sperm had several issues. He took 6 months out to improve his diet, health and activities. 2 months of trying again and I fell pregnant with my twins. I took progesterone well into the second trimester and they were born, healthy, at 36 weeks.

Congratulations, I appreciate the plan is tailored to your needs. Do you mind sharing what your plan entailed?

I was in a similar position a few years ago. Three losses, including an ectopic, 38 and with a 5 year old who was desperate to be a big brother.

We went private as I didn’t qualify for the recurrent loss clinic at the time. I saw a specialist in London, Dr Lower, as scans showed scarring from my C-section and Aschermanns was suspected. It wasn’t, but he did extensive testing, and we went on to have our lovely littlest boy thanks to him.

I hope you also find the right support. Wishing you all the best

Thankyou. So my bloods showed I have antiphospholipid syndrome. So I started on aspirin 75mg before TTC, then increased this to 150mg at 12 weeks I think and started low molecular weight heparin 40mg from a viable scan.

I went private to CRP clinic in Surrey but they also have a clinic in Harley street. It was quite an erm 'heavy' drug regime but I finally have my 6 month old after many years of failed ivf and 4 miscarriages. I didn't have any issues conceiving my first child. He said it could have been my first pregnancy that triggered my body into going into an immune response and essentially attacking embryos after implantation. I nearly went with the Prof Quenby nhs referral but I know that nhs treatment is limited and suspected I'd want/need the drugs she wouldn't be able to prescribe.

Like a previous poster I also saw Mr Lower and he discovered and operated on my ashermans (previously misdiagnosed, hence all the unsuccessful and unnecessary ivf).

I'm very grateful to both Mr Lower for making it so I could fall pregnant again and CRP for making it so I was able to maintain a pregnancy. I don't believe I'd have had my dc2 without them.
