Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

3rd miscarriage. What now?

LER2023 · 25/03/2024 17:11

Ive had 2 previous miscarriages and currently going through my third after cinding a huge haematoma around my pregnancy sack and baby being a little pea inside a huge pregnancy sack.

So im now on my third MC.

What next? How long does it take for miscarriage clinics?

What tests do they do?

What can i do for contreception? Condoms are out of the question because they just make everything VERY sore even the latex free ones, so im lost, as im meant to use something apparently but i cant go on the pill, cant use condoms, cant use femedoms, cant use anything that produced hormones. I refuse to go for the coil which doesnt have hormones in, because im not having a coil fitted. Full stop.

Im buggered if im honest.

Im stuck and angry and down right just lost. Whats to come?

Hi,
I'm so sorry for your loss, I read your comment and had to reply as we are in a similar place. I had my 3rd miscarriage at the end of Jan...

I called my GP the day I was having my miscarriage to get a referral to the recurrent miscarriage clinic; I got one, but is for the end of July (!)
As I feel I can't wait (I'm 38) I decided to go private, so I started reading posts, forums, recomendations....in the end, I feel there are 2 options and this depends on whether you've had tests done before a) find a place to do a general assesment, bloods, uterus, etc or b) go through the inmune path. I've chosen a) and I booked an appointment for next month (my suggestion is to reach them as soon as you've made up your mind to avoid delays, I didn't do this and I've wasted 2 cycles thinking I had to wait for my period to come).

Also, if is convenient, I would suggest to ask your GP to refer you to Prof. Quenby in Coventry there are countless of comments in this forum. I've reached out to them and they mentioned 5-6months waiting list too.

On the other topic...I can't opine, sorry

Sorry to hear you're going through this. I've had several losses myself.

I had a referral and was seen pretty quickly, but this was before covid. I had immune panels run and other bloods. All checked out fine, by the time I was offered more testing (had mcs in between and was waiting on further tests and refferals) I had mc #7 and decided to call ot a day. A year later I was having a surprise baby.

I'm not sure about the contraception. Why have they recommended that you go back it? As long as you aren't having sex during your bleed (infection risk) you're good to go. They often say to wait one cycle before trying again but that's because it's easier to date the pregnancy. You can ovulate very quickly after a mc in some cases.

Or you can try using the rhythm method but need a few cycles clear of the mc to track with some degree of safety but it definitely isn't fool proof.

Hope you and partner the best on the next steps, what ever they may be.

Thank you ladies, its a struggle to go private in this time of day, with the cost of living as high as it is.
Unfortunately i dont drive and dont live anywhere near coventry otherwise id be there tomorrow!

Its definitely a struggle and i cant get past 6 weeks, i know when i do finally get pregnant i'll be watched like a hawk😅 which is even more scary! Because im constantly going to be worried about whats next🙃

Im going to ring the gp and hope they can get me sent through to the miscarriage clinic and fingers crossed its not as late as september time🫠

Im only 26 and my OH is 33 today, so i feel like im running out of time, i wanted to have my first by 25, i was pregnant at 25 but lost it at 6 weeks. The continuous loss is always around 6 weeks, so it shows i can get pregnant i just cant carry past a certain week😮‍💨

If you are that young and get pregnant quickly (in no possible world are you running out of time. I was in my mid 30s with my first miscarriage and the clinic called me "young"), then to save your sanity I would use contraception. Why not the mini pill? It's oestrogen free and fertility comes back straight away.
I had a referral within a few months (I was under Liverpool Women's as I'm in the NW).
Because we are older than you, we gave ourselves a time limit and ended up adopting, but that's just our story.

They say it still has some sort of hormones in it. So the mini pill will?have progesterone in, rather than a combined that has progesterone and estrogen. So wont allow me to have it while im having to go synthetic hormone free for a couple of months. I'm in the north so will be in my home town, as i have checked it out.
We have said we will adopt if we know we cant carry past a certain week and that it has been confirmed by a doctor.
I may have a quick google about how i can possibly get contraception without messing with synthetic hormones.
Because i want to go to the clinic, but i also want to still have that time with my partner without worrying that we may fall pregnant again and go through the same thing again. Thank you for your comment i really appreciate it

The minipill does have just progesterone - who has told you that you can't have it, and why?

The nurse at the hospital because they want my hormones instead of any synthetic ones for the testing in the miscarriage clinic

I’m so sorry for your loss. But you have age on your side, you need to kick this plan to have a kid by a certain age. And you’ve got pregnant three times, that is a positive as well. Speak to GP, and see what they say. If it will be a wait, couldn’t you try again in the meantime?
