Prednisolone?

Hi everyone, after 3 early losses, my specialist prescribed me prednisolone, aspirin, and progesterone. I’m waiting on more test results in the meantime.

anyone else tried this combo? Dr said to start taking them on Day 18, but I’ve read online that you should wait till after a positive test- what have others done?

I started taking them, along with clexane, after a positive test - I’m not sure if they would have started me earlier because we didn’t have results back before.

Be warned the pred can really get to you after a while - it destroyed my sleep, and combined with the effects of pregnancy and the extra progesterone I was an exhausted zombie who still couldn’t seem to sleep no matter how tired I was. I was also very very emotional but obviously there are other contributing factors there.

It’s a lot to put your body through, but worth it if it helps you get your baby. Good luck.

Thanks @OpalSnail can I ask what dosage you were on, and how long you needed to be on meds before you were successful?

did you have high NK cells? I’ve just had mine back, and I have high cytokines although most of my NK are normal.

I was on 25 mg, and did show elevated NK cells on blood testing at the Lister in London.

It hasn’t worked for me yet - I’ve only been on it for one so far. But this one did progress further than my previous ones and I’m hopeful that maybe this one was a chromosome issue and that the pred will work for me in the future - and you too!

All you can do is take it one day at a time and listen to your body. If you’re feeling positive and healthy and comfortable, that’s great. But if you’re not, that’s also okay. It really helped when my husband reminded me that I was on a lot more medications this time and it’s totally reasonable to feel crappy (and starving!) and different than I usually do, and it’s okay to just feel what you’re feeling.

Thanks @OpalSnail and I’m sorry to hear about your losses. I’m only on 10mg of Pred, wondering if I need to up it since I just got my results with high cytokines.

I was on those plus clexane/fragmin from bfp (told to test as soon as possible) and it worked twice. I started the meds then had HCG bloods done 48 hours apart and scanning every fortnight at the clinic.

I had two mcs on those three without clexane. I didn’t have any bad side effects from any of them. Tiredness and bloating from the progesterone but indistinguishable from early pregnancy. Hyper and extra productive at work on the pred in my first successful one but no symptoms the second time. I was weaned off the pred from 12 weeks.

I wasn’t tested for NK cells as my consultant isn’t convinced about them but I didn’t get a reason from any of my other many tests so it was last chance saloon with the pred as there was nothing else we could try and I’ll always be thankful it worked.

Don’t know if that’s any help. Recurrent losses are a nightmare, I’m so sorry you’re going through this and I really hope it works. Write down any questions you think of as they occur to you, on your phone so you’ll have them to hand. I always found it impossible to remember what I wasn’t sure of in the moment.

Pupsandturtles · 20/02/2024 20:02

Thanks @AnneLovesGilbert did they test you for clotting issues?

So many times.

Never found anything but the pattern of my mcs strongly suggested clotting issues as my placentas were failing while tests showed no issues with the babies.

Pupsandturtles · 21/02/2024 10:22

That’s really interesting @AnneLovesGilbert. I didn’t realise blood thinners could be prescribed without evidence of clotting. I’ll ask my specialist about it. I’m sorry to hear about your losses.

It’s the first line of treatment at the clinic I was under. Injected fragmin and baby aspirin. Loads of women carry to term on just those from what I was told.

Thank you. It was a pretty rough few years but I have two beautiful children now thanks to a dedicated consultant who was willing to through the kitchen sink at us and thousands of pre filled syringes!

Pupsandturtles · 21/02/2024 14:55

Pleased to hear that @AnneLovesGilbert , which clinic was it?
