Tests Following Miscarriage

Hello all

We found out we are pregnant with baby no 2 at 5 weeks. Went in for early scan at 6 weeks due to brown discharge and previous miscarriages. Everything fine, sac and yolk there. Rescanned today and told that the embryo has formed but there is no heartbeat. The amniotic sac is the right size, but the baby must have stopped growing but my body hasn't registered it yet so I've been advised to come home and wait for it to happen naturally, otherwise they are scanning me again in 10 days before then offering d&c.
I am still in shock, as although I had light brown discharge, occasionally, I didn't have a bad gut feeling. We have fortunately had one healthy baby boy in January 2023 who I am SO grateful for, but our second baby was also very much wanted.
Now obviously I am spending my evening on Google, desperately seeking answers and I see if you have had 3 recurrent miscarriages, they will run tests such as a full blood count and thyroid check. My history is as follows:

2016: bled every day. Miscarriage. D&C at 10 weeks
2020 bled every day. Miscarriage. D&C at 8 weeks
2022: chemical pregnancy
2023: birthed healthy baby (via c sec)
2023: occasional brown discharge. Currently sitting hear waiting for my body to register the miscarriage 😢

My question is, as I've had a healthy baby in between, am I still eligible for tests?

Feeling numb and lost. Probably clutching at straws x

I’m so sorry for your losses.

I believe the guidance has changed so support is offered after the second miscarriage. I don’t think they have to be concurrent, so with your history you should be seen.

Either way, go to your drs and don’t feel worried about advocating for what you need. I didn’t meet the previous 3x miscarriages criteria, because one of my losses was an ectopic, but my GP authorised all the tests she was able to without referring me to the clinic. Her hands were tied, but she was really kind and did everything she could for us.

All the best with everything

Thank you for your reply and I am also so sorry for your losses. Did you find a reason why it happened to you? Did you go on to have a successful pregnancy? X

I have two boys. One born before the losses, and a bashy, lively 18 month old who was born after.

I have an MTHFR variant. It’s rare but linked to increased miscarriage and, also, in my case, low birth weight (but thankfully healthy) babies.

We discovered this because we ended up going down the IVF route due to my age (38). At that stage the consultant ran a number of additional tests.

Good luck with everything.
