2nd Consecutive MMC. Any hope?

Sunshinebaby90 · 25/01/2024 10:49

Hi 😊 Unfortunately I am going through my second MMC in 12 months.

Both MMC were discovered through a bleed at 10/11weeks and the subsequent scans showed there was no progression beyond 6 weeks for either pregnancy.

Has anyone gone through similar who was successful with their third pregnancy? Did you change anything in this pregnancy, did you undergo testing or take medication?

It is hard to believe that this could simply be, “bad luck” and that there isn’t something undiagnosed which could cause the recurrent loss.

Any success stories or tips would really help right now. TY ❤️

Im so sorry for your loss.

I have no advice for you, but i just wanted to follow on this thread for the same reason.
2 mmc in a year hoping for the 3rd pregnancy to go to term. Currently ttc

Wishing you all the best x

ttcthoughts · 25/01/2024 11:53

Hi Lovely, I had 2 MC's last year and I'm now 26 weeks with my successful pregnancy <3.

I spoke to Tommys and they recommended I get a full blood count which actually showed I had a Vit D deficiency which is linked to MC.

Wishing you all the luck TTC <3 xx

Sunshinebaby90 · 25/01/2024 11:57

@LER2023 I’m so sorry to learn you’ve also gone through the same. It is such a tough time 😔

I hope you don’t mind me asking. Did you speak to your GP? Did they say anything, other than to keeping trying?

Lots of love to you as you ttc. X

Are you taking any supplements? Is your DH?

Sunshinebaby90 · 25/01/2024 12:07

@ttcthoughts I’m so sorry to hear of your losses but to find a cause, I bet was a huge relief?!

Congratulations on your pregnancy! Wishing you all the best and thank you for sharing your story. To know there is hope, really does help ❤️

Sunshinebaby90 · 25/01/2024 12:12

@Rosiiee No, at least not yet. Other than the standard recommended dose of Folic Acid. I guess I naively went into this second pregnancy assuming everything would be ok. I have just began reading into what I could take next time around. Is there anything you were recommended, there seems to be a whole list! TY for your response! ❤️

Rosiiee · 25/01/2024 12:20

I had 5 miscarriages before resorting to IVF. But before getting to that stage we got given a long list of supplements to improve our health. We both took fish oil, Vit D, magnesium and zinc.

I took prenatals and folic acid as well.
DH added CoQ10, proceive for men and ashwaghanda.

What we were basically told is that paternal health was just as important and poor sperm quality could be the cause for the mc.

We also both cut alcohol and caffeine and increased physical activity.

It’s truly a process and it can take a few months for the supplements to make a significant difference.

Best of luck!!

LER2023 · 25/01/2024 12:35

@Sunshinebaby90 unfortunately not because accordind to the hospital the nhs wont do anything until ive had 3 miscarriages. They just told me to leep trying, said it regularly happens to people in the early stages of pregnancy, so its not uncommon🙄
They never told me to take any further pregnancy supplements or anything!

But reading these comments as well from others, i think im going to start forcing prenatals on the OH too!😂

I'l have to search for the best stuff ready for the 3rd and hope for the best, i have read that vitamin A is no good when your trying or pregnant, i bought some vitamins which included vitamin A and stayed clear of those when i found i shouldnt be taking in extra vitamin A!

I always put it down to my weight too, although ive never been below a size 14, after my 2 miscarriages ive not been able to shift weight!

I eat from pinch of nom books, which are meant to help you slim down! My partners seeing a different but im still not seeing any loss.

Its so hard to get into my doctors for anything!!! So testing my bloods may be out of the question! I do need routine bloods doing so they can check for everything! But last time i gave them a sample of anything they f**d that up and didnt look for the specific thing they were supposed to be looking for!🫠

But thats the nhs, they dont pass information on to the relevant people very well.

I wish you luck on your future pregnancies x

Sunshinebaby90 · 25/01/2024 13:33

@Rosiiee I’m sorry to hear you’ve had such a difficult time 😔 I hope you see the positive results you are deserving of through IVF ❤️

Thank you for sharing the supplements you were recommended too. I’ve just ordered the book It Starts With The Egg after seeing some recommendations on here but you can’t argue with DH taking his share of the supplements too. Especially as there’s so standout cause for these losses.

@LER2023 I have read that after 2
MM that they can perhaps offer very basic testing. I would definitely try and go through your GP for that if you can but sounds a bit nightmarish based on your previous experience.

My DH can loose 3 kilos overnight so I feel you on the weight loss. I can understand why your weight may be a worry (I am worried about all the undiagnosed issues I may have right now) but it isn’t always the underlying cause. I do hope you’ll find some answers though, is there anyone at the EPU you could get back in contact with. There is often a bereavement midwife and whilst I haven’t asked her any direct questions myself I have read others being advised X,Y,Z after speaking with bereavement team.

Our time will come - I am sure! ❤️

@Sunshinebaby90 I'm just recovering from my second missed miscarriage too. First baby got to 10 weeks and I found out at the 12 week scan, second baby never got to 6 weeks and I knew from 7 weeks but had to wait until 10 weeks for confirmation.

I've got a daughter so I'm hoping it's just "bad luck" but I've ordered coq10/.vitamin D/ folic acid tablets that I'm planning to take daily. We're having a break for 3 or so months to allow for recovery and our holiday in April 😊 hoping for 3rd time lucky! Is this your first baby you're trying for? X

ThelastRolo20 · 25/01/2024 15:32

@LER2023 I'm also forcing vitamins on my husband 😂 I figure it's the least he can do!

Sunshinebaby90 · 25/01/2024 17:03

@ThelastRolo20 I’m so sorry. The waiting for confirmation is particularly heartbreaking, especially when experience tells you the likely outcome. I’m in that stage right now actually and not due for another scan until Monday.

I am still trying for my first. Also hoping for third time lucky 🍀 How old is your daughter?

Yes!! A holiday - that is what the NHS should prescribe in this period where they can’t do/wont do anything to help further. Where are you off too? 🌞

OP posts:
ThelastRolo20 · 25/01/2024 17:36

Ah I'm sorry @Sunshinebaby90 how far along are you? Is there any chance the scan will show a different outcome?

She's just turned 2 😊 I'm 34 and my husband is 38 so will be cracking on after April's holiday 😂

We're just off to Lanzarote. The in laws love it and they're paying for us to go with them so thought why not!

Sunshinebaby90 · 25/01/2024 18:17

As I tracked my ovulation properly this time unfortunately I’m pretty sure of the outcome as certain on my dates. I’m now 11 weeks but measured 6 weeks at 10 weeks, last week 😔

Aww 🥰 The best age for a holiday too, especially if you have the in-laws to lovingly hand her over for an hour or two 🤣

My partner is Spanish and he, without fail, will tell me that the canaries have the best year round climate whenever people mention Tenerife/Lanzarote etc! You’ll get some nice weather in April 🔥

OP posts:
ThelastRolo20 · 25/01/2024 18:52

@Sunshinebaby90 ah very similar to my timings - I also tracked ovulation so there wasn't that wriggle room that people talk about unfortunately!

Haha my in laws go about 5 times a year! I learned Spanish for a year or two about 5 years ago, always wished I hadn't given it up. Maybe one day I'll put some effort in 😂

So sorry for this Sunshinebaby90. MMCs are just awful. I am preying my next pregnancy wont go that way like my first, but....

Ttcthoughts, out of interest what level of vitamin D suppliment did they recommend. I had a blood test showing that mine was very low too. Doc has hold my to take 4000 iu per day.

Helloitsme16 · 25/01/2024 19:28

I’m so sorry you are going through this.

I had two miscarriages while trying for baby 2. The second was a MMC picked up at a 9 week scan.

I paid privately for some blood tests (which didn’t show much) but was told to start low dose aspirin while trying to conceive again.

Once I got another positive test I self referred to the local hospital EPU and was seen for a really early scan (about 6 weeks) and then was prescribed progesterone. I continued to take the aspirin for the entire pregnancy too. I was told the NHS is starting to help people from 2 miscarriages, rather than waiting til 3 like in the past so it is absolutely worth persisting. I could self refer to the EPU, but that might differ by area.

I went on to have healthy baby 2 almost a year to the day after MMC 2, so have hope!

Best of luck!!

Cati482 · 25/01/2024 19:31

I had three in a row before going on to have two beautiful girls, so there is most definitely hope! We had all the testing available, no problems were ever found for either myself or my husband but I did take a progesterone supplement in both my successful pregnancies from getting a BFP to 12 weeks.

best of luck to you both 💐

ThelastRolo20 · 25/01/2024 20:21

@Cati482 @Helloitsme16 thank you both - so lovely to hear positive outcomes particularly after two miscarriages.

On another thread someone said we need to try to conceive with hope and not fear. I think about that often

9422x · 25/01/2024 23:07

So sorry to hear of your losses. We also experienced two consecutive miscarriages in 2022. Both times, spotting started at exactly 7 weeks. The first time a scan showed nothing either where it should be or where it shouldn't be. The second time, the sac was only measuring 5 weeks at 7 weeks. For our third and successful pregnancy, I was given progesterone from the EPU from a positive test and took low dose aspirin all the way through the pregnancy. We're not sure if it was these things that worked or this pregnancy was just meant to be but I'm currently cuddling our beautiful baby girl. Please don't lose hope! Xx

ttcthoughts · 26/01/2024 05:44

This is the dose they recommended for me to also higher folic acid and iron tablets.

Sunshinebaby90 · 26/01/2024 08:50

Thank you all for sharing your experiences. It’s so hard not to worry when your only experience of pregnancy is loss but knowing it can happen after loss, make me feel a whole lot better. Xx

Ah me too with the folic acid, 2000 iu but I have moved to tge natural folate just to make sure it absorbs. My iron and b12 are surprisingly fine
