Expectant management...just how long do I wait!!

This has quite a long and traumatic back-storey which is probably irrelevant so i'll just put the short version here!

Foetus stopped developing at 6w2d. I had quite a bleed a few days after this which lasted a few hours over night. I had a scan, suspected missed-miscarriage and another scan a week later confirmed this.

It is about 3.5 weeks later and nothing has happened. I live in a rural area where the proceedure I would have liked (aspiration) is unavailable and local hospital will only offer D and C under general anaesthetic which I do not want.

So my options are to continue to wait, or medical management. I would really prefer not to take the medication for various reasons. But how long is too long? :( I'm scared to go anywhere incase it starts in public, i'm worried incase I get an infection and am forced to opt for a D and C anyway or that it just never passes and I need a D and C anyway.

The hospital have been honest in that there just isn't an answer as to how long is 'too long' in the absence of infection.

So i'm wondering if anyone here did pass their pregnancy using expectant management and if so, the length of time it took?

Hi, sorry to hear your loss. I lose my baby at 6 weeks and only found out at 11 weeks on a private scan, and then I passed everything a few days later. So awful. x

Really sorry to hear this :( Did you need to have medication or did it happen spontaneously?
I hope you are recovering ok after dealing with this x

@Sulley2222 awe thank you it was back in August so back to normal now thankfully. It just started happening as soon as I knew there was no baby I started spotting that evening but it was a good 5 weeks past the 6 weeks when baby had actually died. My body just carried on as if I was still pregnant. I think the shock was the worst of it if there had be been blood before I’d have at least been prepared so it’s just the worst thing. So sorry your going through it x

I'm so sorry for your loss. I had two mmc previously, one was discovered at 9 weeks and the other at 11 weeks. I was in the same predicament regarding options and chose to wait for it to happen naturally, and both times it happened when I should have been 15 weeks

I don't regret waiting

As for what happened when it began, it started very much like a period for me. Cramps and light bleeding no stayed home with painkillers and a hot water bottle, close to my toilet, and it was all over with in about 6-10 hours though I did continue to bleed like a period for about a week I wasn't restricted to the house or anything nor did it spring up on me like a surprise

Thank you, i'm hoping for the same to happen but a previous experience came on very quickly and quite uncontrollably and I was so grateful it happened at home as there was no hiding it despite precautions I had taken :(
Thank you for replying with yylour experience, i'm very sorry for your loss.

Thank you for the reply. It's good to hear from someone in the same situation. If you don't mind me asking; did you continue to have pregnancy symptoms for the duration?
I'm very sorry for your losses.
