Hyperemesis gravidarum and miscarriage

Hi all,

I saw a BBC article that was interesting today about a breakthrough on the reason behind hyperemesis, so fingers crossed a cure is on the way.

Has anyone else suffered with hyperemesis gravidarum and then gone on to lose their baby? I had hyperemesis from around week 8, was hospitalised 5 times, and gave birth to my daughter at 15+3 weeks. Throughout my hospital stays I was told that hyperemesis babies were always strong and you are less likely to miscarry. I wish this was the case. My girl was a fighter though, and died aged one minute.

I'm scared to try again, both because of my experience of hyperemesis and of having a late miscarriage. It breaks my heart, I just want to have children and I feel so let down by my body.

Thanks for reading!

Susie

I had hyperemesis with my first pregnancy and carried a very healthy baby to 42 weeks and is now 2.5 and thriving.

My first clue that something wasn’t right in my second pregnancy (that I’m currently miscarrying) was that I had minor minor sickness. In hindsight it was telling.

So in my case hyperemesis definitely indicated a strong viable pregnancy. Sorry for your loss.

Wow, your daughter was such a fighter to live for one minute at that gestation. You should be very proud of her as I'm sure you are.

I've had 2 miscarriages, 1 with no morning sickness and 1 with bad morning sickness (not sure how bad it has to be to be HG) and 5 living children (bad morning sickness with all 5).

With my 2nd miscarried baby it was a missed miscarriage and the sickness carried on after he had died and until the Drs took him out. My milk came in a few days later as well, despite the Drs saying that wouldn't happen.

So sorry @CandleRigg89 to hear what you're going through at the moment, sending lots of love your way, and happy to chat whenever if you need someone to talk to.

Thanks @elliejjtiny sorry you've have to go through two miscarriages, that is awful, but I am so happy to hear you have five living children <3 I am very proud of our girl, I just feel so let down by my body that for whatever reason I couldn't carry her to full term. It's so hard to think that she wanted to live and was fighting to be here and I'm what's killed her. Pregnancy is by no doubt the hardest thing I've gone through and I'm so scared to try again now, with no knowing what may happen!
