Natural miscarriage happening same time as medical management - should I continue

Hi everyone,

I found out earlier this week at 10 weeks pregnant that I've had a missed miscarriage (baby measuring 6+4 and no HB).

I've opted for medical management, and started the process by taking the Mifepristone tablet in hospital yesterday (Thurs) morning. On Weds eve before starting the medical management, I'd started to have some v. light pink spotting which had become brown discharge by yesterday morning. I mentioned this to the doctor but we decided I'd continue with the medical management as the bleeding was so light. Fast forward to last night - I was up all night with painful cramps and bright red bleeding with small clots (like a heavy period). Cramps still ongoing although currently lighter.

I plan to call the EPU later to discuss but I'm now unsure whether to continue with the 2nd part of medical management (4 x Misoprostol tablets tomorrow morning). I'd rather let my body do this naturally, which it now seems to want to do, and i'm really quite scared of taking the Misoprostol having heard many horror stories. Don't want to put myself through that if it's going to happen naturally anyway (and I'm already having cramps that are keeping me up at night). But at the same time, I don't know how long the natural process will take (I need to work next week) / if it will result in complete miscarriage. And now I've started the medical management process, and put aside a few days for it (I have a 2 year old so difficult to juggle everything), should I just go ahead and get it over with?

I realise this probably comes down to personal choice, and imagine that the hospital will probably respond with this, but I'm wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience and can shed any light on what they did just to help me make an informed decision. Really grateful for anyone's help 🙏

What disadvantages do you think rhere are to continuing the medical management?

From what I've heard, a lot of pain, like labour pains.

@Whataretheodds do you have experience of medical management?

I had one night of natural miscarriage and one night of medical management. I'd say the pain was about the same with both (didn't know where to put myself).

I'm not sure that expectant management guarantees any less pain than medical. For me the appeal was knowing it would be over sooner so I could start moving on physically and mentally.

I'm sorry for your loss. It's rubbish.

I went the natural route also. I had planned to do the surgical route but when I went in to check the doctor said I passed a lot of it so there wouldn’t be much point.

in terms of the pain, it was okay, there was one day of more intense cramping but was manageable. My periods in general are not super heavy so this kinda felt like a super heavy period to me.

everyone’s experience is different. I’m sorry for your loss xx
