What happens after your third miscarriage?

I'm currently 6w4d and have been spotting since last Monday (5w4d) and actively bleeding for about 24 hours with mild cramping. I've not passed any tissue or clots bigger then a pea. I have had 2 previous consecutive miscarriages (April 2022, May 2023). I've been waiting for EPU to open so I can get confirmation scan that I am losing it.

All that being said, what happens after your third miscarriage? For me this has always been a cruel process. No investigation, no answers, no confirmation if there is something wrong with me or us until we suffer through this process 3 times.

I've been offered no progesterone in any of my pregnancies, no blood has ever been drawn or tested in this pregnancy or my second. I'm just so hurt and frustrated with how cold and clinical my pregnancies have been treated.

How can I better advocate for myself and my pregnancies?
How can I get access to progesterone for my future attempts?
How can I investigate private options besides just googling "private doctor in my area"? For others who have experienced three or more miscarriages do you have any other advice on how I can better inform myself?

I'm 38 and time is not on my side so I really want to go to any appointment as informed as possible.

Once you've had three, your GP will refer you to the recurrent miscarriage clinic. Then you'll get the blood work and investigation. Do be prepared that they won't find anything though. It's just not practical to begin investigating after one, considering that approx 20% of pregnancy ends in a miscarriage.
After mine, I started with baby aspirin every day, which helped. I don't see there's anything much to be gained by going private, they do the same blood tests, often in the same lab. I was 42 when I finally gave birth, and it was our last chance after four previous losses. I know how awful it is, but you'll now me in the system, so the wheels will begin to turn. I wish you both good luck and a successful pregnancy soon x

I'm sorry to hear you are losing another pregnancy. Ask for the tissue to have genetic testing. It needs to be sent promptly, but the result may be useful for future treatments.

Thanks both for your advice.

I had my scan which showed baby is there, but sonographer was concerned with slow heart beat. I'm booked in for a repeat scan on Monday.

As there was no mention of it, I had to be the one to advocate for progesterone though. I asked how I could get a prescription and was told i would need to speak to a consultant. I said let's do that. She said they might not still be in the building but she could check. I don't know if she was expecting me to say oh OK don't bother then, because she looked a bit surprised when I said ok I'll wait while you check.

Anyhow, I've got an appointment tomorrow to speak with the doctor to get the prescription. The sonographer did not seem confident that things will progress positively, but won't know for sure until next week.

You've done the right thing.

I had an early bleed in 2nd pregnancy and after a scan confirming a (faint) heartbeat was prescribed progesterone. At the follow-up scan 2 weeks later there was no heartbeat.

I spoke to my GP who said she would prescribe progesterone when I got a positive test. I tested positive a few days before my period was due and took progesterone leftover from my precious prescription until the new prescription was prepared. I'm now 26w and so far all looks fine, so fingers' crossed.

The rules changed in July this year

Pregnancy loss review guide lines

Now you are supposed to be offered progesterone if you bleedd during a pregnancy and if youve had ( ' just ') 1 miscarriage before....

Tommys baby charity know about this
And theres stuff on their website

Their miscarriage support tool is also good - i recommend it

I had an early miscarriage in sept - my first

Sending hugs
