Recurrent miscarriage - recommendations for private clinics Yorkshire

Hello,

I’m 30 years old and have been trying to conceive since June. I feel like to some it may feel like I’m over reacting but I’ve had two early miscarriages since trying to conceive, one after another. My main concern is that my mum went through menopause early (late 30’s) so I feel like a ticking time bomb, I know it might not be the case but early menopause has been shown to be hereditary and it is always at the back of my mind.
I came off contraception (Nexplanon) in June, got pregnant first cycle trying, it ended in loss but unsure of how far along, potentially 4-5 weeks. We tried again next cycle which also ended in loss at 4-5 weeks. I’m going to contact my GP tomorrow but I’m unsure how much support they will offer with it only been 2 miscarriages so I’ve been trying to look at recommendations for recurrent miscarriage clinics near where I like (Yorkshire) happy to travel if necessary if there aren’t any good ones around here. I don’t think I can sit around and wait for the 3rd attempt to end in miscarriage too, I feel like I need to do something to take control of the situation.

Any recommendations would be very much appreciated 💕

Hey,

Sorry to hear of your previous losses, I totally get the anxiety I also turned 30 this year and live in Yorkshire too! (West) 😊

I've had 3 early losses, all between the 4-6 week mark my most recent was in May 23. I was diagnosed with antiphospholipid syndrome and was under the Gynae deparment at my local trust who prescribed heparin & progesterone suppositories to assist but sadly this still ended in a miscarriage.

After that I spoke to one of the midwives at Tommy's and requested my GP refer me to one of the recurrent miscarriage clinics, after doing some research I decided to go with Professor Quenby. I was started on Hydroxychloroquine in July and conceived again Aug 23 I'm currently very early again so just taking it day by day! Hope that little insight helps, Tommys really are great! happy to answer any Q if I can xx

@MrsBFaith

thank you for your recommendations and sorry for your losses 🤍

I contacted the GP and they have referred me to the gynaecologist but I have looked on my NHS app and it says I could be waiting until November for a referral. How long did your referral take?

I’ve looked at Tommys but I don’t know if I’m close enough. I’ve decided I’m going to go private to get things moving faster but it’s like a mine field, I don’t want to give my money to a not so great clinic only to have to move to another one further down the line and I’m unsure what tests I would need.

Did professor Quenby find anything? Really hope this cycle works out for you 💕

Hey you don't need to be close to the Tommy's clinics initially, the first consultation tends to be over teams / phone they give you a choice. I haven't had to travel yet, the Dr took my history, created my treatment plan and sent it to the GP but I guess every treatment is individualised.

The investigations they offer tend to be cheaper or free because the referral is via the NHS. They also test for things that aren't routinely done through the NHS because they're a research facility 😊. I did consider private initially too but it worked out cheaper to go through Tommy's for me.

I was diagnosed with APS prior through my local trust Gynaecologist and the wait times were horrendous! It did speed up the process up with Tommys though because I had most of my bloods already on record.

My symptoms also align with high uNK cells although I haven't had the biopsy for this yet, the medication I'm on for my APS (hydroxychloroquine) should also assist with the NK cells (If I have it) hope that helps 💗

@MrsBFaith Thank you so much for your recommendation to contact Tommy’s. I called them today and they have been very supportive, they have explained to me the tests they would usually do at this stage and have explained to me what I need to be asking for from my GP. I’m going to contact my GP tomorrow and ask them to refer me to Tommy’s in Coventry. I feel so much calmer knowing that I have a plan.

thank you so much 💕
