6 consecutive miscarriages - any further testing advice?

Apologies for the long message I am just wondering if anyone has any advice regarding further testing following all tests being completed with gynaecology & Tommys support on NHS, private options welcome:

We have a perfect son who is 6 (forever grateful) Have been TTC since August 2020:

November 13th 2020 PUL - suspected ectopic
June 23rd 2021 - MMC 9 weeks
October 22nd 2021 - natural miscarriage
April 1st 2022 - natural miscarriage
May 4th 2023 - chemical pregnancy
Sept 1st 2023 - MMC 12 weeks

We have had all the tests Tommys/gynaecology have offered. We have also had my husbands sperm count tested and my egg count.

All professionals say that on paper everything is fine, normal & working - I am 34 now.

last 3 pregnancies I have had aspirin, progesterone & blood thinners all to no avail.

12 week scan today showed baby has died - we had a scan with Tommy’s at 9+3 and baby was absolutely fine, heartbeat & everything in the right place. Fast forward to today & baby is measuring around 8 weeks & no heartbeat so they suspect it died a week or so ago as it is shrinking.

Has anyone ever had any further advanced testing that has shown anything that perhaps the NHS can’t offer to test?

All of the other tests I have had have come back fine apart from a mild case of PCOS?

Any advice would really be welcomed at this point. Thanks so much for reading

I’m so so sorry this is happening to you xx I had a missed miscarriage earlier this year, it was so hard and this pregnancy has been quite awful with all the worry of the same thing happening, so I can’t imagine how you must be feeling after 6 losses. I really hope your luck changes soon xx

Hollycharlie · 01/09/2023 20:04

@letsdothis2310 im so sorry. I cannot offer any advice but after suffering a mmc a few weeks ago I can’t imagine how you feel after the loss of 6. Thinking of you and big hugs. Xx

MargotBamborough · 01/09/2023 20:08

I'm so sorry for your losses, I really feel for you.

I had five losses in a row and then two healthy pregnancies. For the two healthy pregnancies I had follicle monitoring ultrasounds and then triggered my ovulation with Ovitrelle when the lead follicle was the optimal size. I think this made me ovulate a few days earlier than I would have done naturally. Doing IUI would have the same effect.

Have you had any advice from the professionals after today's news?

Thank you so much to all of you who have replied xx it’s so hard isn’t it no matter who we are or what we have when it comes to pregnancy xxx
the problem I have is that I can conceive and our sperm/egg seem to be compatible (thank god as we’ve been together for 21 years - childhood sweethearts) it seems the problem is keeping the baby. When we had our 9+3 scan it was the furthest we’ve come since our wonderful son xxx
I don’t see the point in continuing with TTC if we can’t identify what is wrong with us as there must be something xxx
To the wonderful women who have replied so far I am so so grateful and regardless if you’ve ever lose one or none every pregnancy is valid and enough to worry the hell out of us xxxxxx stay strong and may your babies live long and healthy lives xxxxx

I'm so, so sorry. I've had 6 mcs too, but not all consecutive. I can't imagine how hard it is for you.

Have you had your karyotypes done? Were any of the miscarried pregnancies genetically analysed? A balanced translocation may be a possibility. If you've had blood thinners I presume you've been tested for Factor V Leiden etc. What about NK cells?

The evidence on progesterone isn't great, I believe. I was on a v high dose of folic acid due to MTFHR. Might be worth looking at.

Hi I’m so sorry you’re going through this. I went to Tommys last week for a reassurance scan - my scan before was great with lobely heartbeat but last week the heartbeat had - stopped - my 4th miscarriage in a row (2 chemical and 2 MMC). Like you I have had many tests and been given aspirin progesterone clexane etc. im yet to speak to my consultant but the Tommys midwives mentioned a procedure which’s is done on the lining of the womb and essentially scratches it. It’s a private procedure as is nk cells testing. I’ve also read about karyotyping - I haven’t had any of these done so cannot advise on them unfortunately

hello,

I know this is an old thread, I was searching for a thread on miscarriage and I just wanted to reach out as I’m in the same position. Three years trying to conceive followed by six miscarriages in 15 months one after the other - no living children. We have never seen a heartbeat. I’m broken and it doesn’t feel like anyone in my life fully understands the grief I feel.

We’ve had everything tested that I’m aware of but wondering if you found any answers after your last loss? Xx

Ttcafterlosses · 28/11/2023 18:20

Hi hoping4amiracle. So sorry for your losses. I am not the OP but have had many tests done both private and NHS and one thing they have found recently (although not hugely recognised) is a lack of stem cells in my womb so I am on sitagliptin therapy. This was done at Coventry recurrent miscarriage clinic x

Patchworksack · 28/11/2023 18:25

Another recommendation for Prof Brosens/Quenby at Coventry. I had the endometrial scratch and biopsy after 4 losses (all at 8-10 weeks after seeing heartbeat on early scans) and had a successful pregnancy on prednisolone, heparin and progesterone after a high uNK cells diagnosis. There was a long running ‘pred thread’ on here where many of us got our rainbow babies thanks to them. Private but not for profit treatment, you can self refer.

Hoping4amiracle · 28/11/2023 20:15

Hey,

Thanks both.

Im actually under the care of Professor Brosons at Coventry miscarriage clinic, we referred there privately from Scotland after getting next to no help on the NHS. In fact as all of the embryos broke down before a heartbeat I was told they didn’t count as viable pregnancies and didn’t count towards my ‘three miscarriages’.

I was really hoping when they tested for NK cells that something would be found but nothing, all tests results were good. Only issue are progesterone levels (so I’ve been on cyclogest last three miscarriages) and I have PCOS but it’s been managed by Metformin and inositol for around five years - I’m lucky that has regulated my cycles.

We catch every other cycle but nothing sticks. I’ve been told to keep trying but after 4.5 years I’m now 37 and I feel like time is running out - I just don’t know what to do xx

Hoping4amiracle · 28/11/2023 20:17

Congratulations on your pregnancy @Patchworksack - I can imagine the joy you must have felt holding baby in your arms for the first time.

It really helps hearing stories with a happy ending xx
