Negative pregnancy test at hospital?

I had done 5+ pregnancy tests at home all tests positive. A clear blue digital then confirmed 1-2 weeks pregnant.

5 days after the positive digital I started bleeding and cramping and contacted the EPU. They booked me in for a scan 3 days later. they saw something but couldn't confirm if it was a pregnancy as too early.

They took a urine sample and did a pregnancy test and told me it was negative and I was not pregnant. I was so confused as that morning I had a positive test. The next day tested again and the test was positive and I have been testing most days since (7 days) and all have been positive with the line getting fainter so I do believe I could have had an early miscarriage as I have been bleeding and had some clots.

I am just curious is it common to get a negative test in hospital but still be testing positive at home? I haven't had an answer of what has happened so I am so confused.

It was my first pregnancy and they refused to do a blood test as they "didn't see the point because I'm not pregnant"

if it’s getting fainter I’m sorry but sounds like it is a miscarriage.
im surprised they didn’t take bloods, but also aware epu can be a little insensitive at this stage of pregnancy and loss. I’m sorry what you’re going through.
is this in U.K.? Doesn’t sound like standard diagnostics

Yeah I totally believe this is what has happened it would of nice to have been told by a professional with maybe some advice. They was insensitive it was quite shocking and yeah I am in the UK.

i truely empathise with your situation. I think when it’s so early in pregnancy and presenting no complications they’re very easy to write off for self management.
I am surprised though as you mention, their pregnancy tests are no more sensitive than what’s available on the market.
I don’t understand how they could say you’re not pregnant yet see something on the scan?
without being insensitive are you sure of what was communicated?

Yeah I had both types of ultrasounds the lady who did it said there is something there but it is so small and only measuring 1mm so couldnt confirm for certain if it was a pregnancy as it could be too early due to my irregular periods.

I was then waiting for a blood test they took a urine sample and took me in a room and said they had done a pregnancy test and it was negative and said that they had the scans reviewed and there is nothing there. She then said we could do the blood tests but there is no point as you're not pregnant because the test is negative.

This is why I was so confused they just said if you still test positive in two weeks call back.

I had a pregnancy test done at my doctors, and it was negative. I was pregnant at the time of the test. I'm not sure why it was negative, I would have been at least 3 months pregnant

Sadly I think it comes to economic management, and the vast majority of pregnancies showing the symptoms you describe end in miscarriage.
I know that doesn’t really help, and having been in your situation, even after blood tests asking are they sure!!! I completely understand why you’d want some “official “ closure.
if you’re passing clots , it’s perhaps right to believe and accept that this cycle it didn’t happen.
am happy to chat if you want x

i think the tests they use on hospital aren’t as sensitive at the clearblue type ones unfortunately.

Not wishing to give you false hope OP, but exactly the same thing happened to me. Turned out they had mixed my test up with another person! 😱
I too had done so many tests that I refused to believe it was negative and insisted on doing another one there and then. It was positive. They apologised profusely for mixing them up but even 20 years later I still think of that poor woman who got my positive test by mistake and all the implications that resulted from it.

I had positives at home and negatives at hospital. I took a photo to show them I wasn't going mad. I had a blood test which confirmed I actually was. I didn't really have bleeding though.

If you're still testing positive I'd give them a ring tomorrow and explain.
