Anyone who has used Dr Attalla?

Bit of a mad request but aren’t we all with this subject! I have been seeing Dr Attalla (if you know him you will know him) and I’ve lost his mobile number!

I know he regularly chats with patients via WhatsApp. Need to ask him a quick question about a prescription. Could someone DM me his digits ASAP?!?

Hi I’m just jumping in.
I’ve had 4 miscarriages in 18 months.
2 at 6 weeks, one at 8 weeks and one at 11weeks 5 days.
ive been seen at Lister and Hertford.
Ive just seen the specialist called Dr Atalla.
Hes stated that all my blood work and ultrasound are all normal and clear.
Hes said I could try and get pregnant again and be under his specialist care having scans every 2 weeks. He said that I could try again with no meds, with Prednislone, with Clexane or both.
I don’t know why I have a choice of one or the other or both.
On the second miscarriage I took baby aspirin, he said not to do this.
Ive asked about progesterone, but he said I didn’t need this.
Im so confused about going forward.
Has anyone heard of taking both together? Or been under Dr Atallas care?
I see him again in a month to discuss what we would like to do, he said to do some research by the next appointment.
hope I can have some clarity and make the right decisions.
xx

Hi, I am the original poster and currently sitting 27 weeks pregnant under his care.

I went through 3 miscarriages and although we had no issues getting pregnant, keeping them was the issue. We went through a round of intensive blood tests which identified some Antibodies which could be contributing to the losses.

Once we were pregnant again, I was prescribed Progesterone and Clexane, however only after we had a positive test. This has now also included Baby Aspirin.

I am not sure about what Prednislone is/does so can't help you much there, however I do completely trust his judgement. I would say we got some pushback from a certain NHS Trust about his treatment plan once we were handed over (after 12 weeks and risk had lowered considerably) however he has been responsible for the births of countless babies so I trusted his judgement and he comes highly recommended from me.

If you want my advice - when he gave me options I would always say "what would you do" I do think sometimes because the prescriptions aren't free (nor are they cheap) they are always cautious not to push too much on you.

Hope this helps and good luck x

Hi @pinkpepperclove
thank you for messaging.
This is the same for us. We haven’t had any issues getting pregnant, it’s just staying pregnant. I’ve had a lot of blood work too by my GP and 15 Viles from his clinic. The ones that have come back are all normal. I’m waiting on the results of the killer cell, and AHA ect.. the secretary said he’d discuss the results at the next appointment which is in March, but try and get pregnant again. The last miscarriage was in November.
Yea he’s said about Prednisone and clexane. I did ask about progesterone to stop bleeding ect and he said with the previous miscarriages this wouldn’t have prevented it happening because of low HCG and one stopped growing at 7 weeks but my body didn’t realise so went in for the scan at 11.5 weeks.
Im a bit worried about taking prednisone because of cleft palate and hair lip, also side effects. I’ve heard good things about clexane.
I assume he keeps a close eye on you and will prescribe or adjust medication needed throughout the pregnancy.
you just think why do I need this if my bloods are ok ect. And why can’t I keep the pregnancy.
id like progesterone at home incase I do start bleeding ect. But I don’t know I’m just worried what to chose.
xx
And congratulations on your pregnancy 🩷

Thank You. I do credit getting this far with him, so trust in what he says for sure. I appreciate the side effects, I would talk to him about the probability that could help your decision.

The Progesterone was only for the first 16 weeks, this has now stopped the Clexane is throughout the term. Maybe I was given it because mine was low? I am not too sure.

He will keep an eye on your medication for sure and review as baby grows. I also wouldn't always assume you will be seeing him the whole way through your pregnancy, once we got to 14 weeks after a few scans with him, he was happy to fill in our NHS booklet with the recommendation for meds and handed us over. You will be given a consultant most likely after that who will keep an eye on you.

@pinkpepperclove
thank you for all your help.
This morning I’m 2 days late, so I’ve just done a pregnancy test and it’s positive.
i rang his secretary straight away like he said, but he’s away till the 13th of March.
I don’t know what medication to go on, they said I might have to wait but then I’ll probably have another miscarriage. I want to start treatment and anything I can to keep this pregnancy.
she said she’d get back to me with advice. Im just so scared now if I have to wait as it will be around 7 weeks and that’s when I’ve previously had my miscarriages , from 6-11 weeks.
hopefully they can get in touch with him or I can see another consultant in the mean time to start the process.
xx
