hi i just found this site and hopefully someone can possibly shed some light onto my situation. i found out two weeks ago that i had become pregnant. last monday i woke up with cramp-like pains and slight bleeding, as the day progressed the bleeding got redder and slighly heavier(like a light period), the pain was slightly more bearable than period pains. i made a doc appointment and she made a appointment for my Early pregnancy unit for a scan on 21st feb as i believe i will be 6 weeks then. when i came out of doctors i passed a clot. the bleeding has lasted for 2 and half days ( between red and brown). is it possible that i have had a threatened miscarriage or a definite one? anyone had simliar experience. i have scan in 5 days time but i have anxiety problems and its driving me insane not knowing. i still have pregnancy symptoms, still feeling sick, started to get sore back, sore heads etc.please help!!!

You need to get scanned a bit sooner by the sounds of it. Ring nhs helpline and see what they say.

OracleInaCoracle · 16/02/2008 21:36

agree, try nhs direct, they may be able to get you in sooner, in the meantime if you get any pain or feel ill, go straight to a&e. it is possible that everything is fine, i bled a LOT with ds, but you need to get yourself checked out asap.

hester · 16/02/2008 21:41

It is possible that you have miscarried and possible that you haven't - sorry, I know you feel a strong need to know.

Do you have a local Early Pregnancy Unit? If so, go there (check first that they will see you this early in pregnancy - some are quite restrictive). Otherwise, you could try A&E but they may not give you the time and sympathy you need. In either case, they could give you a blood test to check your HCG levels (more sensitive than a urine test) and a scan.

Very best of luck - I've miscarried myself and I know the hell you are going through. I also bled during my next pregnancy but eventually gave birth to a beautiful healthy baby. I really hope it all works out for you.

chelle7184 · 16/02/2008 21:49

i called nhs direct and they said there was nothing they could do.EPC cant take me any quicker as i am not far enough on.feel like somethings happening in my body and noone can tell me what - very frustrating!!!

I know it is agonising. I'm so sorry that nobody can help you before - is it Thursday? It's going to be a very long few days for you - I'm so, so sorry - I really do know what you're going through.

let us know how you get on. And keep posting if you want support.

xx

chelle, sorry you cannot be seen sooner. I think it is only from 6 weeks that you can reliably see a heartbeat. If they see you before that and there is no heartbeat, it is not conclusive whether or not you miscarried and could cause you more worry than help.

Not sure whether to suggest this, but what I would do in your position is just keep testing. You can get cheap pregnancy tests off eBay. I could tell from how dark the line was my pregnancy hormone level (hcg). So long as you keep getting that line and it does not lighten, that might give hope? Having said that, I hope it does not cause you more worry. It is a very crude test and not at all reliable either way.

The factors in your favour are you are still getting pregnancy symptoms. If the bleeding stops or goes back to brown, also good.

I echo hester in saying that the bleeding can indicate either way. I had brown spotting from the start with a heavy red bleed one day and then back to spotting - that baby is now dd. Then I had no spotting and a heavy red bleed, passed a grey sac at 7.5 weeks - I lost that one.

Sorry you have to go through this. Wishing you a sticky baby and good news on the 21st. {{{hugs}}}}

Hi Chelle, Sorry to hear about everything thats happening to you. I'm just a bit confused about your dates though and wondering if you are counting from when you ovulated rather than from when your last period was. I'm just thinking that if you found out 2 weeks ago then assuming that was when your period was due then that would have made you 4 weeks then and so 6 weeks now? Hope thats not confusing but just wondering if it would help you get a scan earlier.

oinker · 18/02/2008 11:12

Chelle

It's horrible I know. I have been there 6 times. Am now on my 7th. Have had tiny mounts of gunky dark brown discharge so am in limbo....Each ime has been different for me..

Last one had red then dark brown bleed at 5 weeks. Scan date came and that morning passed a large red clot and gushed blood.. got to scan two hours later and beanie found with slightly slow heartbeat... but sac intact...have no idea where clot or blood came from but not beanie...anyway sadly beanie didn't make it but I know some mums on here that have expereinced the same and now have healthy babies.

NEVER GIVE UP HOPE..

chelle

i lots my 1st and 2nd pregnancies early on the first time i went to a&e after taking NHS directs resting advice.
When i got to the hospital they did a pregnancy test and it was negative after i'd done 7 positive ones a coupes of weeks before.
you could try that, although it relys on hormone levels and if yours are high still you'll get a positive result.
With my 2nd i booked a private scan the next day. check online for your nearest private clinic is. It cost me about £100 i think but it was worth every penny.

berolina · 18/02/2008 22:49

I'm afraid from your description it's impossible to tell mc or not. It's hard to have to wait, but waiting my increase the chance of a heartbeat being seen if all is well.

Be kind to yourself, but remember at this stage resting (for example) is not going to influence the outcome of the pregnancy, so if you would rather be active to take your mind off things, that's fine too.

Hope all is well at the scan.

fym · 18/02/2008 23:04

I had early bleeding with DS1, I was shocked that no one was 'interested' the doctor was just "wait and see" - NHS direct seemed unhelpful . There was no immediate scan ....

I do feel for you but realistically you can't scan until there could be a heartbeat (they said I had to wait until 8 weeks)

A doctor friend has since told me there is nothing they can do - it is either a sticker or it's not. there's not really any way to tell until 8 weeks. Sorry this probably isn't the advice you were looking for (I wanted answers NOW when I was in the same situation)

chelle7184 · 19/02/2008 18:27

thanks for all your advice guys, i have my scan on thursday morning at 9am so will post how i got on. im only holding onto the fact that i only bled for 3 days - surley that means something?

Hi Chelle

I bled a little with my first pg, at 8 weeks, and then with my second pg, I bled loads, like a heavy period for a couple of days, at 14 weeks...he's 4 now

Good luck!

digitalgirl · 20/02/2008 20:58

chelle - I've just stopped spotting brown blood after 3 and half weeks, started a 4+6. Had a scan at 5+3 and another at 7+3 and all was fine, even though bleeding hadn't stopped and had painful cramps for a few days in between scans. I posted on MN thinking I was miscarrying, but the bleeding and cramps eased up slightly and then the scan showed a baby and a heartbeat. So it's not always the end! If it's stopped then you're probably ok, if it comes back and the pain gets bad then please go to A&E just so they can rule out ectopic.

blueshoes · 20/02/2008 21:13

Chelle, hope it is good news for you tomorrow. Thinking of you.
