Could my GP be doing more?

Hi all,

I have recently had chemical miscarriages and have been referred to the recurrent miscarriage clinic which we know can take a very long time for your initial consultation. When chatting to my GP I would've expected them to ask to do a blood test for myself to check progesterone levels, was so overwhelmed at the appointment I forgot to ask.

I wondered if people managed to get their bloods taken via their GP before waiting to go to the RMC or have I got this completely wrong? If it is my progesterone levels that are low it seems that this would be a much quicker way to solve it?

Thanks everyone x

I would have thought they would offer to do bloods. I had a MC in January and was offered a progesterone one, but because you need it seven days before your period, I couldn't have it straight away, as I obviously didn't know when my period would return.

Ps. Sorry you're going through this x

Thanks so much @HollyGolightly4 I thought so. I'm going to request them to do it on Monday. Just seems like not many GP's know much about this and you have to request it. If it is my progesterone then it can be easily fixed.

How is your journey with it all going? X

Your GP has followed NICE guidance. The investigation is done by the miscarriage clinic, not the GP.

Thank you. It is confusing as many women are offered blood tests via the GP to check progesterone levels. Also, on the link you sent me it doesn't mention the RMC checking hormone levels so I am going to try via the GP. At least then I know I have enquired about every possible Avenue.

Hi, definitely push through your gp. I have my first recurrent miscarriage consultation this Monday but I didn’t know how long the wait was and asked them for these tests in the mean time

thyroid, progesterone , vitamin d level , folic acid , coeliac

Thanks so much @HollyGolightly4, going to do this on Monday. Did the RMC ask if you already had these blood tests?

Wishing you all the best on your journey 🌈❤️

Sorry, also just to ask did your GP willingly do this? Xx
