Recurrent early losses - Scotland?

Hi I’ve had 3 very early miscarriages, ttc for 30 months. One of the last times i spoke to epas i was told there wasn’t anything they could do as theres ‘nothing there’ at the stages i’d had the loss and that they would only help if i’ve had 3 or more and unfortunately chemicals don’t count as miscarriage. Now its happened again ny GP has said they will try refer me however they think it is self referral and would rather i done it, does anyone have experience with this? I’m really apprehensive to phone as my emotions are everywhere and last thing i want is to feel like my grief isn’t warranted but also don’t want to not phone incase my GP has been unable to put a referral in?

Really sorry to hear you have been having a hard time. I had three losses at similar stage and live in Scotland. I am under the recurrent miscarriage clinic and it has really helped. Nobody told me that chemicals don’t count. I think it is time your GP referred you. Please don’t feel you have to tell me but I wonder which city you are in? I suspect each area is a bit different. I don’t think it is ever a self referral. There should be a recurrent miscarriage clinic that you can attend.

Thanks so much for replying, i think i will just trust that she has referred me like she said she would ‘try’ as shes never done it before and thought its self referral and wouldve preferred for me to phone! I just dont have it in me atm to have to phone anyone else and deal with it, was already hard enough crying on phone to GP! I’m in glasgow :)

I live in Glasgow too. There are definitely recurrent miscarriage clinics here. The royal, QEUH and RAH all have them. They don’t take self referral. Your GP needs to send a SCI store referral. The wait time at GRI was around 8 weeks. The EPUs can be a bit harsh in my experience. I remember feeling absolutely broken and trying not to cry at each appointment during a prolonged pregnancy loss. It is awful but you will feel stronger and it’s important to get the right support for your next pregnancy. Hopefully you will get your good news soon!

i work as a doctor in Glasgow so I understand the system. Let me know if anything else I can help with x

It's definitely not self referral! Your GP should refer you after 3 losses of any kind. Also make sure they don't refer you to assisted conception as that's a different service (although linked and based in same places).

This is NHS ggc handbook page on it obsgynhandbook.nhsggc.org.uk/nhsggc-obstetrics-gynaecology-guidelines/guidelines-library/gynaecology/cg-pregnancy-loss-recurrent/#:~:text=Pregnancy%20loss%20counselling%20and%20support,%27)%20or%20via%20the%20GP.

Just to bump this old thread,
ectopic pregnancy doesn’t count as a loss unfortunately, as I queried this.

Some harsh centres in Glasgow don’t count ectopics but others are more sympathetic. It is a truly broken system.
