6+4 empty gestational sac - tilted uterus?

I had a private scan this morning that showed a gestational sac measuring 17mm x 17mm but there was no yolk sac or fetal pole or anything. The sonographer asked if I had a tilted uterus which I haven't heard of before. She said it could be that my dates are wrong, but the very earliest I could be is 6+4, and she said it could be an ectopic pregnancy so I need to go to EPU tomorrow. I just wondered if anyone has any experience of this?

I've seen a few threads where a later scan has shown everything to be fine, I feel like I'm clutching at straws. I had a very traumatic mmc last year, had to have surgery and a blood transfusion, and so I'm really scared of going through it again although I know it's unlikely to be that bad this time.

I only had an abdominal scan today, they couldn't do an internal at the place I went to, so partly I'm wondering if that might show something - I should be able to have an internal scan at the EPU. Has anyone had an internal scan and seen something after the abdominal scan couldn't find anything?

I would brace myself for bad news while also hoping for the best, an abdominal scan that early on will be really unreliable, an internal scan will be able to see so much more.

Honestly I don't think I'd go anywhere private who could not do an internal, that's a bit crap.

There defo is hope

Hoping for good news for you 🙏

Thank you, I'm sure being ready for bad news is the best idea. I went to the GP today as we can't self refer to the EPU. Because I didn't have any current pain and I've not had any bleeding, they've given me an appointment for Weds. It's hard to have to wait but at least it gives me a bit of time to prepare myself for the worst.

A horrible waiting game for you OP, and having been through it myself I know how agonising this part is. I always caution against false hope, but the fact you haven’t had an internal scan yet gives me cause to think all is not yet lost. I have had numerous early pregnancy scans over the years, and was always told that abdominal scans were inaccurate prior to 9 weeks (especially for those of us with tilted uteruses, which I do have). Really hoping you get some reassurance at your EPU scan.

I had a titled cervix and also had an early scan at 6-7 weeks with internal method and everything that should have been seen for that gestational age could be seen.

I have my fingers crossed for you OP.

I really appreciate your messages, I'm waiting for my appointment now. Trying to be ready for bad news but I know it's still going to be hard, I can't really prepare myself for it.

Fingers crossed for you op xxx

Sadly it wasn't good news. The baby stopped growing at about 5 weeks and there was no heartbeat.

Am so very sorry to hear that OP. Awful news for you and I know that it is a devastating blow, even when one suspects something is amiss. Be very gentle with yourself x
