Hey 👋🏻

I wondered if any of you ladies could please offer any words of advice on where to go next, I have just had my third miscarriage in a row I am 34 years old with no children as of yet and I’m not really sure where to turn next, I know the NHS can do testing now as we have had 3 but I’ve been reading that they don’t do very thorough testing? Should I be going down the private route to get tests done, and if so what tests exactly would I be looking to have done?it’s not cheap I know but I honestly don’t think I can keep going through this, and if anyone has any positive stories after recurrent miscarriage that would be very welcomed

thank you 🙏 xxxxxxx

Hi Georgie, 1st of all let me say how sorry I am for your loss its so hard me and my wife had been trying for a baby since we got married 11 years ago. 1st we where struggling to get pregnant we both seen our drs and they said they seen no reason why we shouldn't be able to get pregnant. Then 5 years ago out of no where we found out we where pregnant so happy but at our 12 weeks scan we was told there was no heartbeat we decided to wait and let my wife's body recover before attempting again we then got pregnant again and everything was feeling good for my wife then at 10 weeks she started bleeding it was heartbreaking and the feeling was at the time we are not going to get lucky we then got pregnant again and this time we lost at 6 weeks. The Dr's sent my wife for tests with the NHS but they was very basic and said they seen no problems it was awful seeing my wife go through the pains and I am sorry you have had to go through it we then fell pregnant again at the 12 weeks scan we was both scared but the magic sound of the heartbeat was there and in August 2020 our daughter was born I really hope you get some good news

Hi OP, I'm sorry you're going through this. Tbh investigations appear to depend on where you are. My hospital is a major teaching hospital in central London which I cannot fault. They were very thorough, and at the time (pre-covid) didn't have horrendous waiting times.

At this stage I'd follow the referral and see how long it takes to get seen and make a decision once you're more aware of waiting times.

I would add that having never been pregnant naturally and losing 3 assisted (ovulation induction or IVF) pregnancies (loss at 5 months, ruptured ectopic and another complicated miscarriage), I finally had a daughter after 9 years of trying. Yes she came early and spent 4 months in intensive care, but you wouldn't know it now (touch wood). The pregnancy was an ivf pregnancy and I have the embryos genetically tested (controversial, but based on research and discussions with my consuktant we decided to do it). Not everything was nhs funded, towards the end I was self funding.

So sorry OP it's a really rubbish time, heart breaking.
Have you asked if your local hospitals have miscarriage experts? I had one, she put me in low dose aspirin, high folic acid and regular scans. I also had trouble ttc so myself researched agnus castus which I think worked for us.
I was (am!) a bit overweight so lost a little as fat affects hormones and a mix of everything, plus new jobs to take my mins off the worrying g meant I got my babies, albeit they took a few years each.
Check your GP or private for miscarriage consultants! Where are you in the country? Many are part of clinical trials which are always worth a look at too

I’ve also just had my third mcand decided to do a bit of both nhs and private, i went to see the private consulate initially, paid £250 for the consultation and got prescribed progesterone and aspirin for my next positive, but I had all the tests on the nhs as my wait time wasn’t very long, I would contact your local hospital and find out how long you would have to wait, mine was only 2 months which is amazing, some people have up to a years wait list. I’m not back to ttc, just had a negative on our second cycle back

Hi I'm so sorry for your loss. I've just recently lost my 6th baby. After my 3rd I was seen at our nearest Tommy's miscarriage clinic who I can't fault and have been so caring and kind. The only advice I can offer is trust the process. The NHS clinics from what I've heard are great. The only thing i get frustrated with is I believe I have a hormone problem (this is based on other symptoms through my cycle ect) and because I can get pregnant I'm not applicable to have hormone testing as that is a infertility test. It's something that I talk to my doctor about because to me fertility is anything to do with the process of getting pregnant and staying pregnant. See what the hospital can do first and then I'd say if everything comes back inconclusive and you can try private for hormone testing. I will be doing this after Xmas.

I really hope you and everyone else can have their rainbow baby soon. ❤️
