Recurrent miscarriage with no known cause- any hope

hi I’ve just had my 3rd miscarriage. I have a 3 year old daughter and then have had 2 early losses and sadly one late loss in July. I just had the post mortem result for that and it was a missed miscarriage at 15weeks but they think the baby died around 13 weeks or shortly after my 12 week scan. They found no reason for her death- genetic tests all came back normal. All the other blood tests and investigations I’ve had done have also been normal- no clotting disorders, thyroid problems etc. has anyone else had a similar experience to this- where they found no reason for the miscarriages including a late one and ended up with a baby?

I had one DD and three miscarriages in a row (one at 11 weeks). I suspect the miscarriages were because of chromosomal issues but that wasn’t confirmed for the first two because no tests were ever done. The third one was a Down’s syndrome baby.

I went and had every test possible privately and was told I had elevated NK killer cells and would need special drips (something like 2k for one and I would need them every 4 weeks) and also that I wouldn’t carry to term unless I had IVF with genetic testing of the embryo.

I didn’t go down the IVF or the drips route (recommended by a top top IVF clinic in London and the best dr specialising in those NK cells).

We were also told by DH had very high DNA fragmentation and that he wouldn’t be able to get me pregnant at all.

Have since had 4 children naturally, some of the private clinics may be on a mission to make a
lot of money out of treatments? No reason for the miscarriages ever found.

Thank you. I know my late one wasn’t genetic reason as had the baby genetically tested but I don’t know about the early ones. However your experiences are encouraging to hear although really sorry for your losses x

I also went to see an NHS consultant and he said as long as I was getting pregnant I would carry to term (I didn’t have any known issues like cervical incompetence etc).

The three losses were all within one year and I was 35-36, so I thought that was it for me, but amazingly after the Down’s syndrome miscarriage at 36, the 4 subsequent pregnancies had no chromosomal issues.

As long as you are happy to carry on trying, it will happen.

I'm sorry, it's very hard. I had 3 consecutive miscarriages after my first child, also unexplained. We stopped trying for 12 months and I got pregnant and stayed pregnant as soon as we tried again 🙂 no idea if it helped but I really tried to mentally let go of it and focus on other areas of life in that year.

I had my 1st ds then 8 unexplained mmc they all died around 8 weeks but not picked up before my 12 week scan, I had given up all hope as no explanation for them but I went in to have my ds who's now a very healthy nearly 6 year old

I too have had three unexplained miscarriages. I am so sorry for your losses. We started trying for our second baby when I was roughly 37 and finally had my dd when I was 41, so the issue was for me, I think egg quality. I paid to have some private testing done which ruled out anything physically, DH also had sperm analysis and we had genetic testing done on the NHS - all tests came back clear. Due to the fact my miscarriages all started with bleeds I was put on progesterone for this last successful pregnancy, and took CoQ10 in whilst trying to conceive. There’s some evidence that suggests this can help egg quality.

Hi All,

I am desperatelly seeking for some hope too.

I had a missed miscarriage in August this year, and after 3 scans I was told I am very healthy and just one of those unlucky ones.

After that I had a chemical one (ended before 5 weeks) and I am pretty sure I am experiencing another CP at the moment as test lines are getting slightly more faint.

I have now completed a form and waiting for my GP to contact me to get a refferal. But so so scared for not being able to carry a baby a all.

This is my first one and I am 35. And fell pregnant very very easily ( first took about 3 cycles) and after that right away after trying each time…

Any sucess storries please?

Three for me too, after my first child. Couldnt really find a specific reason but got on progesterone and aspirin for this pregnancy and all currently ok! I went to a miscarriage clinic in Liverpool and also saw a private specialist with all my NHS blood tests for a 2nd opinion. Both said progesterone looked a bit low but nothing major. I felt like getting pregnant at was a full time job and one month just thought sod it, really relaxed, had quite a few wines and got pregnant! Someone said to me, you never know when there is a rainbow round the corner xx

I believe you can self refer to the recurrent miscarriage service via the Early Pregnancy Unit at your local hospital once you’ve had three losses. Then they will do some tests on you and your partner to check everything is OK. If you’re in London I believe St Mary’s have a special clinic supported by Tommys, a lot of the research is done there I think.

Sorry you are going through this, there is no worse pain.

I suffered 4 MC’s all around mid late 1st trimester, no testing done in 1st one (12weeks) but lots of testing on later ones…all normal! All genetic tests of embryos were normal, all testing on me was normal. It was so frustrating. I would get pregnant in an instant…first cycle trying every time. I became scared to have sex in case we fell pregnant again. I took some time out, was completely lost and worked on accepting life without children. Then agreed to try again…fell pregnant straight away, didn’t really acknowledge it…carried on drinking coffee and doing some quite dangerous sports, each time I had a scan I was so anxious but every time there was a little heart beat, and I couldn’t believe i was going to have a baby when I went into labour!!! Anyway I had a successful live birth and decided to get pregnant again more or less straight away and had another very close. Haven’t decided whether or not to have third yet, sometimes I wish to just because I couldn’t for so long (many people don’t understand this thought).
i hope it happens for you, I really thought I wouldn’t for me and it was a very stressful and sad few years. But hold on to hope. It’s possible x

Thank you all so so much! I did test this morning and my line is looking the same strengh as control line but not really stronger. I had a call with GP, explained two previous losses and he suggested to have HCG test first and take it from there, however it is not available until 26th Jan 🤦🏻‍♀️ I am currently looking into private one. Will take it from there as I guess there isnt much more I can do…

Wwhite1386 · 30/12/2022 12:58

Can you get a HCG test at the early pregnancy unit? Hopefully they can do one that day then one 48 hours later to compare the numbers
