Miscarriage/pregnancy loss

Hand hold - TTC #1, 2 miscarriages and hypothyroidism

Looking for a handhold this evening... :-(

We started TTC our first in April last year. Both of us are 33. Fell pregnant quickly, but miscarried at 5 weeks in May. Fell pregnant again in August, saw a heartbeat at 8w then miscarried again. I pushed for blood tests through GP which found a slightly underactive thryoid (TSH 4.99 and T4 9.5). Started thyroxine 2 weeks ago. Was hoping we'd have caught this month but haven't and I'm just gutted.

I'm so scared we'll never be able to have a baby of our own and I can't bear hearing of people announcing their pregnancies or having 2nd babies.

I'd love any stories of happy endings, hope etc to keep me going. The world feels so dark and gloomy right now. X

Hi, I'm so sorry to hear about your previous mc's, sending big hugs xx I just wanted to comment to offer you some reassurance...my mum had an underactive thyroid that went misdiagnosed for a while, she also suffered MC's during that time. It was eventually picked up and she started thyroxine...a few months later she found out she was pregnant with me and had a totally normal pregnancy and labour 😊 she then had my sibling a number of years later, totally healthy again!

I know thyroid problems can cause pregnancy issues (I also have thyroid problems) but I hope it helps that my mum and my nan both had successful pregnancies despite theirs...I also have a friend who is underactive and has 2 lovely little boys after MC previously ❤ I hope this helps to give you some reassurance, it's so good you've been diagnosed and started treatment and I wish you the best of luck😊 x x x

Hi OP

I'm so sorry to hear about your losses :(

I have hypothyroidism and have a 5yo DS. It always worried me immensely that I would struggle to conceive and have a child due to my hypothyroidism. I actually went for a pre-conception consultation at my local hospital where they went through everything and talked about optimal levels for TSH. I had always read that my TSH should be below 2 to be able to conceive but I think it was actually above that a little when I did.

I really recommend having a consultation if you can. I had another consultation fairly recently, and just had to go to my GP and request a referral for a pre-conception consultation at the fetal medical unit at a University teaching hospital. I got the appointment through quite quickly.

Wishing you lots of luck and a big hand hold x
