Experience of an MVA?

I had a missed miscarriage diagnosed last Friday. I was 11 weeks but baby stopped growing at 8 weeks. I thought I had passed it naturally as I passed a lot of blood and clots but scanned again today and all pregnancy tissue including the sac is still in place. I have opted for MVA (manual vacuum aspiration) as I can’t bare to wait for medication to work and then potentially tissue still be in place. I initially wanted a D&C as had read a lot of ladies here having that but due to the bed shortage in the NHS, my midwife suggested against this as it was not going to be a quick option.

I have not read many people having MVA’s? And just wondered if anyone has had one? And successful conceived again afterwards? Any support would be appreciated. I’m just a wreck at the moment. I had emotionally dealt with last week being told about the MMC and now a week later to be dragged on again. I just want it over with and to go back to “normal”. I know it may not be healthy? But I feel like being pregnant again is the only thing that is going to stop my emptiness.

@Jolio123 did you get pregnant before your period that time or did you get pregnant on another cycle? So exactly, the doctors all told me you don't have to wait for a period but EPAU nurses keep saying to wait but can't tell me why other than dating? X

@Rolo08 it's just for dating purposes - there's no medical reason to wait x

@Rolo08 I always thought that was strange regarding dating reasons. It made me feel like it was to benefit them rather than me 😂. No I didn’t conceive until the third cycle after, I tracked using natural cycles and was actively trying but my body obviously wasn’t ready right away x

@moosey89 @Jolio123 this is what I thought! How inconvenient for them! Also one of the nurses told me I should wait for a period so my uterus lining shreds and it can hold another pregnancy better but I did think if it was that medical surely all the doctors would of said that to me? X

moosey89 · 31/08/2023 09:04

@Rolo08 there's no medical proof of that - given our entire lining sheds every month, a miscarriage essentially does the same thing to the lining! I started TTC right after my miscarriage (well when bleeding had stopped and I had a negative test) but didn't ovulate before my period came anyway x

@Rolo08 The nurse said that to me aswell. I was therefore expecting my next period to be really heavy and awful but it was literally normal flow, length everything. Nothing different to before. You’d want a negative pregnancy test first so then you know for sure your next positive is accurate but other than that as @moosey89 said, nothing medical to stop you. I just panicked about infection but if bleeding has stopped then your cervix is likely closed. x
