Time off work?

Good morning all xx

I am approaching my 7th day off (mmc at about 9pm Monday, delivered Thursday) and I am having to get a sick note for more time off. How long is typical? My work only has guidance for bereavement or post 24 weeks. I presume I fall under sickness but was unsure what to write in the box on the online gp form. I've written what's happened, but how long would a gp give off, if anything? I can't speak to a gp. It's just faff and stress I don't need right now.

Firstly I am sorry for your loss
i guess it’s very individual for everyone - I would submit the online form and then perhaps speak to your manager
if you have a good one / HR dept then hopefully they will be understanding especially if you still have physical symptoms etc

I would ask you GP for two weeks. You can always go back early by getting them to sign you off as fit.
For most employers it actually helps to know someone’s away for a while in terms of planning. I’m of the view many women don’t take nearly enough time off and end up suffering. So when I’ve managed people who’ve had miscarriages Ive always suggested they take two weeks as a matter of course and then if they need more to talk about sick notes etc. They always resist and then later say I was right and they had still been in shock when they thought they could come back.
But of course every person is different.

I'm sorry for your loss. I had three losses and took about 2 weeks for each. The bleeding was heavy and mentally I needed time. In hindsight it probably wasn't enough but it was a balance between taking enough time at home and needing to get out (personally being at home too long doesn't do me any good).

My EPU provided a fit note. I have had 2 weeks off but they back dated it from the day I found out there was no heart beat. I'm feeling quite positive about returning to work at that stage but if I wasn't I wouldn't hesitate to get it extended by GP.

So sorry for your loss OP. I had a MMC in March last year. It all feels a bit hazy now but I think at the time I had nearly a week off after the news confirming it was a MMC. Then a further week post the D and C I had. It was a horrible horrible time. I'm pretty sure my work recorded all of it as pregnancy related absence - which it was- and it didn't count as a typical sick leave absence. Sending lots of love your way at this difficult time x

Hi,

I went through the same and originally asked my Gp for two weeks off I then had a horrible UTI after the procedure so asked for another week. When I told the nurse at the hospital she said to me “two weeks is nowhere near enough time off”.

It gets counted as pregnancy related so will not be counted as your sickness days.
