It looks like a blood clot to me.
A miscarriage is sort of greyish

I had a huge bleed at 5 weeks, but the pregnancy went on and have a big strapping lad now.

Unfortunately, the exact same amount/type of bleeding in one pregnancy can be fine, and in another can mean miscarriage.

When I had an early miscarriage, I'd had one digital test that read "2-3 weeks" at about 5 weeks, and then it read "1-2" a week later, and I started bleeding a week after that. It's not an exact science, and strong lines, or "3+" don't necessarily mean everything is OK, but if I saw a feint line, or a "1-2 weeks" I would resign myself to a loss.

I hope you're OK, the limbo of not knowing is awful xx

Also, did you have any pain when you passed that clot? I had really awful pain until I passed it, which I was really surprised about considering how early on it was.

So it can be ok to bleed in early pregnancy, and ok to experience pain, but both is the concern. Is there a phone number on your booking in card for any questions/ concerns?

I bled later- twice - at (can't remember exactly but between 6-10 weeks). The second bleed was a big gush of blood when I was sleeping. It was so much that it made me feel ill so I fainted and fell down the stairs! Baby was fine and is now nearly 7 months old. I'd ring your EPU and see at they say. They may want you in for an early scan.

Charmuzza · 06/08/2022 09:08

Sorry you went through that. Mmm just really tight cramps but nothing really painful yet, it only started this morning..

In the UK you don’t get your first scan till 12 weeks and your first midwife appointment till 8-10 weeks so you are kinda left to figured it out yourself, I’m just going to wait 1/2 weeks and do a test hopefully by then my levels would have gone down.

Ultimately, this early on it will be a bit of a waiting game whatever you do. Even if you pay for a private scan, it may not be conclusive at 5 weeks. But if you want, you should be able to phone the GP surgery and ask for a call back from a midwife, and they should be able to talk you through your options xx

LT2 · 06/08/2022 09:45

@Charmuzza but there is an option of an early scan if they feel you need it (ie, bleeding or cramping). It is done internally. I had it done after I bled early on

MissMaple82 · 06/08/2022 09:55

Scoop it out and take a look. That's the only way you'll know. You'll know if it is, i lost a baby at around 7/8 weeks and it was quite clearly a sac, it filled a urine pot and looked veiney

MissMaple82 · 06/08/2022 09:55

It wasn't grey though, it was dark red

MissMaple82 · 06/08/2022 09:57

I also had an incredible amount of pain before and during passing it, then it ceased
