ERPC

Hi, I had a miscarriage on 6th June at almost 12 weeks. I’m still bleeding now, and saw the GP on Friday and been given antibiotics for an infection and being referred for a scan to check if anything is left. If there is anything, I will need an ERPC. I’m very scared about the whole thing. Can anyone tell me what to expect?

I'm sorry this is happening to you. I had an ERPC and it was actually much better than all the waiting, it was day surgery and everyone was so kind and nice. I was home by the afternoon feeling a bit out of it but mostly OK. It didn't hurt. The first period afterwards wasn't very nice, old tissue coming out I think, but after that I was fine and was pregnant again quite quickly. I hope it goes well for you, take it easy.

I’m hoping there won’t be anything left so I won’t need the ERPC, but I’m trying to prepare myself for the worst. Do you still bleed after the procedure?

So sorry for your loss.
I had this procedure 10 days ago now due to missed miscarriage at 11 weeks. I was very nervous but honestly it was fine, the feeling of being in limbo was much harder.
Arrived after midday and was home by 7pm. No pain during or afterwards, just felt a little tired for a day or so.
Sending love xxx

So sorry you’re also going through this awfulness.
I had an ERPC recently and I felt so relieved when it was done after 2 failed rounds of medical management. I had minimal pain afterwards and my bleeding stopped a few days later. Everyone was lovely and supportive and it felt like the physical aspect being over was essential to have any chance of really being able to process the loss if that makes sense.
I hope it goes smoothly for you xx

Thank you guys and sorry for your losses. I’m feeling very wobbly today. I’m hoping I hear about the scan today so things can get moving and then I can try and move on

I ended up having my scan today and it showed I have 3cm of retained products left. I’m booked in for the ERPC on Saturday. I am so scared

I know it is scary but the actual procedure is so easy, physically. I was given a pessary, then put to sleep, I woke up what felt like a second later and it was done. Barely any discomfort, minimal bleeding, I was home before teatime.

Hi OP. I've had 2 D&C's in the last 4 months, and honestly they were far from the worst part of my MC/MMC experience. I promise you there is honestly nothing to worry about at all. If anything, the little sleep I had under the anaesthetic felt like about 6 hours after I woke up!

It's such a shitty, shitty thing that's happened to you but - honestly - the procedure / aftermath isn't bad at all. Promise.

Handhold from me. X

So sorry to hear this @CLR1313 💐

I had a MMC and D&C a few years ago - I couldn’t bring myself to try the other options. I went to to hospital and they gave me a pessary to soften my cervix, then after about an hour they put me under general and when I woke up it was done - I had some bleeding for about a week after but just like a moderate period. Wishing you all the best.

I have my ERPC tomorrow and I’m so nervous

There's honestly nothing to be nervous about. The worst part is already over. Sorry to sound brusque but having been through it twice recently, it's really really not the worst part of all of this. You might feel vulnerable on the way to the theatre from your bed / ward / etc - I found that the worst bit of the whole experience. The anaesthetist and nurses will know why you're there and will be lovely to you.

Best of luck.

CLR1313 · 01/07/2022 04:30

It’s the whole being put to sleep thing that’s making me nervous - i know that sounds dumb!

Hope it all went ok, @CLR1313
