Can you fall pregnant with retained tissue after miscarriage?

Hi everyone, I am wondering if people can help or share some good news stories.

On the 25th of May 2022, I found out I had a MMC; I was devastated and they give me the option of having surgery, tablets, or letting this come naturally. I opted for natural and sure enough, 3 days later it all seemed to pass as bled very heavily and passed a lot of clots and tissue.
We went back to the hospital for a scan 10 days later which showed a small 2cm bit of tissue left; I was given the tablets which I did straight away. Nothing seemed to happen apart from mild cramps and passing of brown discharge; so we went back to the hospital 7 days later for another scan which showed a very tiny amount of tissue or blood clot left. Again I was given the tablets which we did straight away and again nothing has happened. The day after this, I was fed up and decided to take the pregnancy test the hospital had given me - to my surprise it was negative and I was quite relieved this was finished. (or so I thought).

Since this, I have been wondering if I can fall pregnant whilst this remains in my uterus? The stories I read are conflicting and I am not sure if I should speak to the hospital to go back in for another scan in a few weeks?
The hospital did confirm before they give me the second lot of tablets that they won't offer surgery as the piece left is so tiny, however, I would hate for this to cause issues with me falling pregnant in the future as my partner and I are super keen to start trying again and we could love to be pregnant as soon as possible.

Has anyone else experienced this and gone on to have healthy pregnancies?

Hi,

I'm also going through exactly the same although in my case I'm having a vacuum procedure on Friday after 6 weeks as my blood test still shows hcg of 30. I had to fight for this as they wanted to just leave the tissue in but you can't get pregnant unfortunately. Good luck.

Hi

Sorry to hear what you’re going through - I am also experiencing something similar. I was told the retained tissue was 12mm and same as you the tablets didn’t do anything, however then I was offered surgery after another scan. The doctor did remove some tissue during the surgery but I am still concerned there is some left as I’ve been bleeding for 2 weeks after the MVA which I don’t think is normal. My pregnancy test is almost negative though (very faint line) which I assume is a good sign.
I spoke to the EPU who said if there is still retained tissue then it could come out with my next period, and that I could continue to light bleed up until my next period. So as I see it this implies I could ovulate with retained tissue (as would need to ovulate to get period), and therefore theoretically get pregnant with retained tissue. However this is just me guessing!
Good luck

I have had my periods through this ordeal and I'm PMSing now which means I'm due to start them either today or tomorrow. From what the gynecologist explained to me, I could ovulate but can't get pregnant because my body thinks it's still pregnant. And my retained tissue is vascular too so is attached to my womb. My aunt had the same and didn't know she had retained tissue. After 3 years she went for fertility tests and they found them and removed them. Got pregnant after that. She also was getting her periods regularly ☹️
