Started bleeding before planned MVA

Hi ladies,

I've been trying to contact my EPU to ask this, but have been in a queue for an hour now, so thought I'd try asking here to see if anyone has been through similar and has any advice..

I've had a confirmed MMC. Had an early scan at 8w which confirmed development stopped at 6w4d.

Im booked in for an MVA tomorrow, but have just started with light cramping and having brown, stringy blood when wiping (sorry if TMI).
Im not sure if I can still have the MVA once bleeding has effectively started, even though it's only light?

The hospital where im booked in for the MVA isn't local (I was referred to the RMC clinic there) and they said to call my local EPU if I started bleeding - but I can't get through to either EPUs!!

Just wondered if anyone here has had experience of starting to bleed before a planned MVA and what you were advised to do - continue to the appointment with light bleeding or just continue to wait and miscarry naturally?

Thanks

My miscarriage was picked up on because I started bleeding and cramping. I took the pills but was offered an MVA so assume it can still go ahead, especially as it's only just started.

I'm really sorry for your loss x

Hi @BJH81 so sorry to hear about your loss. I’m going to be completely upfront about my experience because I felt I wasn’t prepared by the EPU. Similar story, discovered MMC at 9 week scan baby stopped growing a few weeks before. They sent me home to naturally miscarry with a provisional MVA date.

I started to miscarry naturally at home about 5 days later and ended up back in hospital. i wasn’t coping with the pain of the actual natural miscarriage, it was truly horrendous and nobody could have prepared me for that. BUT it was a bit more complicated due to my anticoagulant medication so I was expected to bleed more and needed to be monitored due to excessive blood loss.

Unfortunately I still had retained products from the pregnancy and still needed an MVA to help. I remember the day of the procedure they gave me some medication which would help “bring things along” and I was passing blood clots just before heading in. I’m only telling you this as I suspect they will still carry on as normal. And personally I wish I could have had it sooner as the experience at home was just horrendous.

Having said that your experience could be totally different and you may handle pain a lot different to me - every woman is unique. Please take care of yourself, lots of comfies , water , paracetamol etc xxxx

Thanks to you both for sharing your experience.
Sorry for your losses also xx

Finally got in touch with the unit carrying out the MVA who said to turn up for the appointment regardless of what happens between now and then - for reasons you both explained.

Not looking forward to tomorrow at all, but also hoping it comes quick enough to not to have to deal with a painful natural miscarriage before then.

Thanks again xx

My cramping/bleeding didn't really get any worse over about 24 hours so fingers crossed.

It's such a horrible wait, keep yourself tucked up and know brighter days are ahead.
